These heatsinks are great at handling the higher powered 9mm diodes, AND a driver thermal glued to the back.

Hi Philip,
Thank you Hope your enjoying it, those XM900 hosts are the best for the big boy diodes. Cant wait to see some beam shots to, Im sure they will be a treat. Sinking the driver to the main sink is the way to go for the driver so no overheat problems. Thank you again buddy..

Every host on this thread looks great. I think my next project might be going your way. Do you have any ideas for a host/heatsink that would fit a beam expander in a secure way?

Can't wait to see what else you have to show us :yh:.

Hi,
Well thank you as for the BE you can get one that will screw into the 12mm copper module were the lens sits . If you go that way you will not need a focus knob with my builds.The BE will take it's place you can see others on here doing this with a BE..I have many different types of hosts to take these diodes, Just let me know what you need and i will build it..

I also have full builds for sale also in the buy,Sell and trade section of this forum..

I've read about the screw in BEs and it sounded like the weight made the connection a bit fragile. When I get more time to surf the threads I'll post a link that shows how someone used a custom heat sink to helps protect/support the BE. I just can't remember what it's called right now... 12 hour work days are slowly eating away at my memory.

I've read about the screw in BEs and it sounded like the weight made the connection a bit fragile. When I get more time to surf the threads I'll post a link that shows how someone used a custom heat sink to helps protect/support the BE. I just can't remember what it's called right now... 12 hour work days are slowly eating away at my memory.

That's a bada$$ host. The stressed member is still the adapter though. If the BE was to get hit enough to cause damage the adapter would give up the ghost. If your concerned about this issue it's better if the adapter gets trashed than say a heatsink that's been threaded for the BE. If something has to give its best if it's cheap and easily replaceable imo.

If I might be able to help here, I've this on a few of my hosts before and used a solution that was pretty solid. Obviously the best way would be to directly thread the heatsink though I still haven't checked what threading the BE uses so the adapter it is.

My solution was to just bore out the front end to the length and diameter of adapter head and let it sit with a perfect fit, and if you're very eager on rigidity you could also use a set-screw to pin the adapter to the host/heatsink wall.

Sorry for the angle, this is the best shot I got that includes it. Here's what I mean:

Sounds very similar to what ArcticDude did and a great solution to the problem. I was leaning more toward threading the BE into the heat sink. But, it might have been an incomplete thought...

I can't deny that logic and it actually persuaded me to think about this in a different way. Guess it's back to the drawing board lol.

Finally made a signature... feels like real progress.
