Last I heard Ehgemus was still in the hospital, so if anybody is weaiting on their heatsinks, I'd give him a few extra days.

Hey Ehgemus,

Just a heads up. I just got around to starting to work on the two Dorcys I got the heat sinks for. There is a situation you probably need to be aware of.

Apparently, Dorcy was "trying out" manufacturers near the end of the run. the shoulder inside the head of the host is different. Not just different from before, but different from each other as well!

Neither heat sink came up flush with the bottom of the outside bevel at the front of the head. I had to cut the shoulders back on the heat sinks to bring them forward. Just to make matters even more complex, they are not the same. One of the shoulders is now 14.8mm from the rear of the heat sink. The other is 16.1mm from the rear of the heat sink.

Just an FYI in case you get a message from someone else.

This has me a little worried since I should be getting my 2 in a few days. Dave, what did you use to "trim" the heatsinks? A lathe? Just trying to figure out what I can do if mine are the same way.

Yes. I got lucky enough to get one of the little Harbor Freight Micro-Mini lathes just last week.

These "end of the line" Dorcys sure have been an adventure.

Peace,

No. You misunderstand. Your heat sinks were consistent. It is THE HOST that is different. Even the height of the shoulder in the Dorcy is different in these two. The height and depth of the shoulder in the flashlight head is inconsistent. The problem lies with the Dorcy host NOT your heat sink.

My post is just to warn you (and others) that they may run into the same problem since the construction of THE HOST varies.

It is NOT your fault. You would have to have had these heads in hand to make my two heat sinks custom fit.

*I* changed the height of the shoulder in the heat sinks to fit my hosts.

The pictures were included so you could see that it was not a mistake in my handling of them, but to show how bad these two HOSTS were

Peace,
dave

Ah man! I've been calling every HF in my area in hopes to get lucky and score a micro. I'm so dissapointed I missed out on the deal! If anybody here picked one up for cheap and finds they have no use for it, I'd be more than happy to buy it from you!!
