Re: Watch out for a possible Skammer!

Glenn, Usually a buyer's credit card company (that was used to fund the paypal transaction) would make the buyer provide proof that the item was returned to the seller before issuing a charge back. If the buyer stated that he did not receive the item, the seller would then have to show Paypal the signature confirmation for them to reverse the charge back. Also, some chargebacks are issued when one person fraudulently uses another person's Paypal account to purchase something. If you call Paypal, they will tell you exactly why they did this.  Incidentally, this is something that we should all keep in mind when making purchases, especially when buying from those that you have not dealt with before, or sellers without established reputations. If you buy something with Paypal and it does not arrive, or it arrives in a state other than described, you will be protected by your credit card company if you used a credit card to fund the Paypal transaction. Your credit card company will remove the money from Paypal's merchant account and return the money to you. But, if you used your bank account or money in your paypal account to fund the transaction, then you will be out of luck. Paypal wants you to use your bank to fund every transaction, because you will not be able to issue a charge back through your bank. Paypal definitely does not want credit card companies ever issuing chargebacks. Credit card companies now stand up to Paypal and make certain to try and prevent fraud. They will issue a chargeback if you don't receive your goods or if they are other than described. (This is federal law in the US). It was certainly unfortunate that Glenn got ripped off here and it's tough (as a seller) to prevent stuff like this (especially with smaller purchases and off ebay purchases). My advice for buyers is always fund your Paypal transaction with your credit card. Then you will be protected if your buying experience turns sour. I hope that this helps.     Bill

Re: Watch out for a possible Skammer!

Thanks Bill and others, I know that Wes doesn't live in Torrance.  But the PP account was that of a woman and Desubot stats on his profile he's male.  I hope he makes it good to all, and I'll withhold judgment for now, but I don't want anybody to take a blind risk.  With internet deals it's also Seller Beware!

btw, I am considering a new personal policy, if you aren't the same person as the PP ID i.e. it's mom, dad or uncle etc., I may choose to do a deal only with a Postal Money order or a Cashier's check. It isn't fool proof there either, but I simply can't afford being ripped off.

Re: Watch out for a possible Skammer!

be careful who you call a scammer, because by your definition may not be the same as mine.
for example, i paid Jake21 on the 23rd for lasers and he just told me he sent them on the 2nd, but only after i prodded him about it.  If not, who knows when i'd get my stuff , if ever.

i dont think he's a scammer just too imature to take care of business...

I just want to keep all who are vulnerable informed, I only said "possible skammer" and I'll keep all up to date.  This forum could all too easily be a vehicle for many more losses if we are not well informed.
There's been several communications, so, I think he has, (as he says), sent the $ (changed name of thread)  Thanks!  -Glenn
