Does anyone know if drlava accepts paypal? I have yet to achieve the 10 post mark and therefore I cannot contact him though it. But I am going to need a flexdrive.

He used to IF you paid (at least part of) the PayPal fees. I believe he prefers Google Checkout.

I'm sure he'll come in here to speak for himself, but this may give you some planning time. Get Google checkout.

The FlexDrive is an excellent driver! I have built several lasers so far (including a Red burner), using the FlexDrive. All of them are very stable on the power meter. Usually the average power is 'pinned' to the exact same reading as the peak power!

Those drivers are worth every penny!

What about the glass lens collimating housing....is this basiclly an axzis module with a glass lens, or am I getting the wrong picture?

For the blu-ray diodes, the AixiZ acrylic lens is going to give you more power than the AixiZ glass lens.

A Meredith glass lens on the other hand, will give you about 30% more power, than an AixiZ acrylic lens (plastic cut away)...
Edit: ...than a Meredith acrylic lens. (With the red builds, the difference is about 20%. For the reds, the AixiZ acrylic and the Meredith acrylic, are about equal. But not for the blu-rays)

Yeah I saw that in the other thread, I was kind of hoping the glass lenses he was selling were some other manufacturers freakishly cheap but extremelly efficient types the holy grail of 405nm lenses that nobody had noticed yet, hehe sweet dreams

We are all dreaming that IgorT's special 405nm coated glass lenses will perform like the Meredith glass lens! That way, we can fit them into the AixiZ nuts...

I just found out the IgorT is a fellow countrymen and therefore we are at most seperated by a 2h drive (small (but beautiful) country), so this might be the option I am looking for!

I was thinking about something Jay.. Is there any way, that the AixiZ acrylic lens would be gathering less light in the Meredith module, than in an AixiZ module? Is any of the effective diameter obstructed somehow, when the AixiZ lens is in the Meredith acrylic holder?

Well, I can tell you that I have removed an AixiZ acrylic lens from the black plastic nut, and put it into a Meredith module. Which gave much better readings that the 'coated' Meredith acrylic lens did. (with a blu-ray) But I have not actually (using the exact same diode), compared an AixiZ acrylic, against an AixiZ acrylic in a Meredith module.

I have a couple of pictures of the Meredith acrylic for you, as well as the Meredith glass module:



I would guess, that the 5.1mm opening at the bottom of the Meredith module, would dictate the difference, if any. It is reasonable that after cutting the black plastic away from the AixiZ nut, that there may be just a little more area for light to come through...

As far as the Meredith glass lens, you can see from these pictures why it is giving more power. Because of the 'short focus' design of the lens, it has to sit at the bottom of the brass holder, which positions it very close to the top of the LD!

P.S. You just gave me a great idea though! I think I will compare my readings on a blu-ray with an AixiZ acrylic in a Meredith module, and then drill out the 5.1mm opening at the bottom to a larger opening! (since the acrylic lens sits at the top, I can drill this opening out)

The 19% difference in output on the unit I reported is a direct replacement of the lens in the same laser (glass at the bottom, acrylic at the top of the diode retainer)
