I've got one of those flashlights. It's by far my favorite flashlight. Not as bright as I'd like to see, but still bright enough. Nice build. As always Very Very impressive.

Sure, I can sell the heatsinks! They require less machining too. But the time is still just about as long with the set screw and everything. They will still be less though...

I will sell them for $19 dollars plus $3 dollars for shipping and handling...

The reason I will probably not be doing a tutorial on this build, is because there is some machining that needs to be done to the stock driver mount. (threaded aluminum piece) It can be done with a hand drill, but would be easy to mess it up without a lathe.

It's one of those builds, that is very tight. If you know how to build a Leadlight mod, then you could do this. But the tiny threaded aluminum driver mount that I am talking about, needs to be bored-out with a 5/8" drill bit. (to fit the FlexDrive - which will need to have the corners sanded down as well for it to fit inside) This leaves very little room for error, but it can be done without a lathe, perhaps using a Dremel. A lathe is the right tool for the job though...

These new 'Pocket Mini' Lasers are much too small for the Standstone11 modules. Here is a picture of a size comparison...



You can see that the 50mW green module is too long for the Pocket Mini. (no room for a battery)

So far, the smallest, clean looking casing I have found for these green modules, is the one pictured there from DX. It is just the Shell/Casing 'kit' that you can get for $12 bucks:

Fits an 18650, or 2 X RCR123. It is a nice case with a glass lens and an aluminum reflector that can be used for a Cree emitter build, or a laser mod! All it needs is a custom made heatsink for the green mod, and will fit a single 3.6 (or 3.0) volt battery.

Of course, my personal favorite host so far for this green mod, is the 1st run Kryton barrel! But those are very rare! Check it out:

a few things to note.
1. The lense inside the Sandstones isn't right at the surface, so We have the option of cutting off part of the top of her modules to get some room. I'll look at mine when i get home, but i am pretty sure we can loose almost halve the length of the module housing.
2. If we remove the driver and use a flex, or shorten the spring on the driver and on the clicky, it might be just right.

This little build is my new favorite!

It is so small, but very solid. And the clicky switch is very nice as well.

Naturally, the first thing I thought of, after completing the first build, was to see if I could fit the green module. I concluded that it would not work. :'(  But I'll take another look at it...

Update: Nope, it will not work. It's just too small of a host... Maybe if there are some smaller modules! I know that her 100mW modules are smaller. I have one. But it too, is too large for this tiny host.

Note in the picture, that you would need room for a driver. Having a tail button clicky takes some room as well. They will just have to be for blu-ray's and red's!

I have 3 of these hosts on the way to me. I think that there must be a way. Certainly if the driver on the Sandstone is replaced or moved flat and the clicky is modified. :'(

'Where there is a will, there is a way'! For sure, if a custom heatsink would stick out the front some.

I think that you will be suprised at just how small this host is!

Alright, looking at my Sandstone module at home there are a few things i've found.  First, the threads in the module fit the tops of the aixiz modules. (See photo)  Assuming the module is threaded all the way down, we can now cut the module below the lens and screw on an aixiz top.  So in addition to the green pointer we can now focus and maintain the look of the other pocket mini lasers.  This would also let us have the lens slightly out of the tube (partly in the focusing ring) and buy us a few precious milimeters. Another great thing is that the modules are the same diameter so no modification to the heat sink should be needed. (you may be getting an order for a third one from me now)

The real question however is this...
What are the differences in focal properties between the aixiz lens and the current one in the module.  In the sandstone modules the lens sits pretty far from the diode to achieve focus infinity.  We may be able to place the aixiz lens even closer to the diode and buy us more space.

Of course the main obstical here is the driver which under every scenario has to be removed.  Since i have two Sandstone 50mW here i'll start taking the driver off one of them.  I should have more information tonight or tomorrow.  I really want to see a pocket mini green!
