Hey,

These are two builds that I made early on in my testing of the Open Boost Driver project. I built them to test how well the boost would hold up in different scenarios, with different currents set, and various degrees of heatsinking.

These were really "test builds", and they aren't perfect builds. I hadn't planned to sell them. But they may interest the right buyer, and I'm pricing them low at $75 each plus shipping, and also plus a $25 donation to Rob (pheonix77 - see this thread). I wouldn't ever want these considered "RHD builds", especially if you sell them on down the line. These were test builds. Hence them being priced so low. They're still cool, but you need to be mindful of their faults, which I'll lay out.

Here are the limitations:

- They will only fit very short 14500 cells. Protected cells will not work, and even slightly long unprotected cells won't. AW IMR 14500s will, and it's still tight.

- They work great on a full cell charge, but as the battery's voltage drops, it becomes too much for the drivers at the current they were set for (which was too high - 1.4A if memory serves). As a result, the builds pulse.

- On a full battery charge, I don't run into the pulsing, even after 2 minutes of use. But as the battery's charge drops, you'll find that the driver starts to pulse sooner and sooner into your usage (because the driver is having to draw more current from the cell, and do more work to boost the voltage).

The Black Build puts out 1300mW+, and the Silver Build puts out 1400mW+, both tested on an Ophir. Both use H-series diodes, and come with glass 3-element lenses.

You MUST NOT be a resident of Canada
You MUST own laser protection goggles appropriate for this wavelength, and
You MUST be over 20 years of age, and
You MUST be familiar and experienced with the appropriate safety precautions to take with lasers of this power.

I just spent $70 on buying a few laser things to make one, and now this comes up!!! Talk about bad timing for me!

Hell of a deal! $105 basically for 1.4W!! Nice! That's correct right?

Actually, just $100
($75 + $25 donation)

Though there is shipping on top of that. Shipping within North America, tracked and insured, is usually $18.

RHD, you are practically giving these away. And I will add at any other time I would snap them up. Too many real life priorities for more laser purchases, no matter how affordable at the moment.

Just to confirm for other interested parties. You are intending the buyer to send the $25.00, not that you are taking $25.00 out of the $75.00 for the donation.

I only point that out because I didn't understand it myself the first time I read it.

Yeah I figured $5 for priority shipping. Flat rate envelop in USA.....hence $105
Tracked and insured express the the way to go though. Very fast and much safer.

Yep, basically that $75 is the cost of the parts.

You are intending the buyer to send the $25.00, not that you are taking $25.00 out of the $75.00 for the donation.

I only point that out because I didn't understand it myself the first time I read it.

It doesn't really make any difference to me whether the buyer sends me $75 + shipping and then makes a $25 donation to Rob, or whether they send $100 to me, and I forward $25 to Rob. Either seems fine to me. If it's the first approach though, I'd probably want to get word from Rob that the donation had been sent. So maybe for simplicity's sake, the buyer should send the $75 + $25 + shipping to me, and I'll forward the $25 to Rob. I'll post the transaction # in the forum though so that everyone can verify that the donation was made.

Unfortunately tracked shipping out of Canada is basically $18 as a baseline. IE, if I shipped a feather in the tiniest envelope, it would cost $18 for the package to be tracked. It's a service called "Expedited Parcel" and it's the cheapest tracked shipping option.

If someone is REALLY price sensitive on the shipping, there are non-tracked shipping options that cost only around $7. But after Electron scammed me (and apparently another member here) out of $225 because we didn't use tracked shipping, I'm hesitant to go that route. I would only do so if the buyer had a lot of positive rep here, agreed to take all responsibility for the package not showing up, and paid with a method that had zero recourse for them. It's still just a bad idea all around.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
WOW. That is gosh darn hilarious. ROFLOL. If we had not just had that quick back and forth about RHD being in Canada this might not have been as hilarious but seeing as how we just established he lives in Canada this question tickles me silly. Who ever said there were no such thing as stupid questions was WRONG. Thanks for the laugh!

Builds purchased, paid for, shipped, and donation made to Rob (Anyone is welcome to PM me for the transaction ID, but I've decided against posting it publicly - not sure if that's safe)

Sorry, I was pretty doped up on my pain medication last night, tend to get a little delirious when I take them right before bed. Didn't mean to be offensive. I was laughing my head off. My girlfriend didn't get it whatsoever.
