Re: 5mW 405nM $9 on eBay

Mine will probably be here tomorrow. (2nd one) Hopefully it isn't screwed up like the first. Time to shine it at planes and helicopters and eyes and all that good stuff. :p

Re: 5mW 405nM $9 on eBay

Just got it in the mail. It still has horrible divergence... Not as bad but still pretty bad. Idk if all 405nm ones are like this or what? You see the dot in the middle but around it is a bunch of purple that looks unfocused. Last one had horrible range, only went down the street before the dot was too big and too dim. Also, I saw that one of you opened it. I would assume that you pulled the silver tip off of it, I tried and I can't. How did you do that? Pliers? Don't want to break it. Thanks everyone.

Justin07: "imo the divergence isnt to bad at all and its focusable if you want to take it apart, on mine there was a big circle but it was around the dot."
How would I focus it?
Like I said above I'd guess you would have to take off that silver tip.
Do you have a picture on what I should look for if I manage to get that tip off? So that I can focus it better.
Thanks

This reveiw thread should help with opening the unit. There are also pics of the module after removal.

This is probably the most relevent post.
Use at least 5 or 6 layers of paper, wrap around the cap, Grip very tightly in a vice, and then grab hold the barrel and slowly wiggle it out, move left-right while pulling - but don't over-do it, paper may slip and vice can scratch the cap, ruining the esthetics...

It's fairly simple.

Unless the damned thing is epoxied in there, then it'll take about an hour of fiddling to get it off.

Got my unit today.

The spring for the negative contact was bent a little.(this is a positive case unit)

Slapped in a couple of AW 10440's in.
wlaser9.jpg

Fired right up and started my examination. Now for the beam shots with a lot of smoke.

Have not checked the divergence. Only pointed it around inside.
Will get some distance beam shots outside in the dark tonight.
For $9 this is a great unit.

I need a simple red module

Hello, I'm new here. I'm just curious what people's opinions are on where the best place to buy modules from is. All I want is a very simple 10-20mW red laser module, so I guess I could go on Amazon, but I want to hear some opinions.

www.aixiz.net

Is where I would go. You didn't specify wavelength, but they have quite a decent 10mw 635nm module for 30$.

All you have to do is attach it to your batteries and you are lasing.

Okay thanks, yeah I had heard of aixiz and I've been to their site, I just thought that $30 for a 10mW red was overpriced. Or is that the standard?

635nm is not your usual red, it's brighter and a tad more orange. They sell standard red modules for cheaper.

Re: I need a simple red module

Oh I see! They have a 10mW 650nm for $12 awesome!

edit: I am using this laser for a project involving a webcam, and I know that 632 nm is easier for the eye to see, but is that also true for a webcam? I need the webcam to be able to 'spot the dot' as easily as possible, but not to the point of using a 532 nm laser, so should I go 632 or 650?

sweet, have you metered that laser, or has anyone, I read through the forum and it looked more like assumptions of what power it has, have you tried to light a match with it yet?
