Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

Yeah for some reason the lasers have been having that dimming problem recently. I've tested some of them. I find that energizer batteries aren't the best. The two best batteries that I've found are Duracell and Kirkland (from Costco). The lasers also dim more when they are cold. Warm the laser up in the palm of your hand and use those batteries and it (for me at least) basically eliminated the dimming.

I've contacted my supplier asking and letting him know about the problem. I'll see what I can do I may even ask to sacrifice a bit of power in order to maintain stability.

Main thing is: Duracell or Kirkland (from my experience) and warm them up!

And sorry about this you guys :/ if anyone is really, really unsatisfied you can always send it back for either a refund or replacement!!

Just got mine looks exactly like my 405nm 10 dollar china 5mw laser. So I grabbed some old stock but still new in box rayovac batteries as they were my only set and powered it up. It dimmed right away but was still better than my real 5mw red. After playing with it all night it seemed to become much brighter and I could see the beam in a dark room and in the sky at night. I was also surprised my 5mw 405 could do the same in a dark room but not as well. I am starting to wonder if the 405 is also overspec.

This morning and at the end of last night it displayed a different behavior it quickly dimmed then went bright again and stayed. I have no idea whats up but I am happy with it and will be getting 2 more soon.

One final note the beam spread is much higher than my actual laser pointer but so is my 405nm of the same make. Just a note nothing wrong.

At the end of the day I am happy

Yeah it does seem that these lasers just take more time to warm up before holding a steady bright light.

I'll keep you guys posted on any updates regarding more steady lasers!

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

The lens in mine came loose and is not rattling around the tip. How can I get it open for repair?

How did it come loose? And what do you mean by coming loose? Based on your last post it didn't come loose in transit did you drop it or something?

I had it in my pocket then I took it out to use it and I got a weird beam. Looks like it screws in but mine came out. :( I may have to open the tip to get it back.

Looked like the clear lens popped out of the lens holder

This might explain the large beam spread I saw.

Got it apart and working again. The thread / lens pill was not quite right and was loose so I wrapped it in Teflon tape and put it back. I love this thing I can see the beam at night and want more. In fact I will take 3 more if they can all have visible beams at night. PM sent

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

A friend of mine just got a nice laser power meter, so I brought all my lasers over to test :yh:

I got 5 of these random pointers, and all but one appeared bright.
1 = 22mW
2 = 26mW
3 = 23mW
4 = 29mW
5 = 15mW

Interestingly enough, #1 has a brighter spot than #2 and a more visible beam, so either #2 has more IR, or wider beam maybe. In any case, they're a lot brighter than my 5mW, and in the night sky really stand out. I'd say they're just right, unless you're after a super bright pointer (in which case you get what you pay for).

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

I was shining this green laser at the 4 of july, along the trees, and in the middle of the fireworks show I shinned it up for like 4 seconds, happened to make it in the Paper the next day of someone complaining about them, saying it was ruid and dangerous, I only did it before the show, except for the 3 seconds in the middle, man people are so weird

here are the links to the articles

First Story - This article made it in the actual physical hardcopy paper

Second Story - This one only made it online

I only did it for about 3-4 seconds in the middle of the show, people in my town are really anal, last year in the same park where I did the tree bouncing a firework was shot off by someone, tipped over and shot right at the entire crowd hitting an old lady, would your prefer a green laser hitting you or that firework, really lol, but this was the green laser that I bought from swimminsurfer256, now I lost it in my room, and bent it cause my lazy boy chair accidentally leaned on it

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

I ordered two more. Unfortunately, one of them had a pretty nasty beam issue that resulted in a dim double dot. I'll probably just give it to someone I really hate. The other is nice and bright, but has the dimming issue that everyone else is describing.

I'll order a few more when you get a batch that doesn't have the dimming issue.

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

I just got a new batch where they are more stable from my testing but not as powerful. They're still over spec but not getting upwards of 40mW. Sacrifices sometimes need to be made :p hopefully these will be a bit better!!
