Need an AT&T android phone

Hello! I need help. I've got a webos palm pre plus for AT&T and while I love the phone, I need to run an experiment and can't find a cheap android phone to do it with. I'll explain why I need it later. Here's what I need.

Android phone has to be from the AT&T network NATIVE. No flashed roms, no unlocked. Has to have been issued from AT&T.

Must be functional 100% but can be beat up, ugly, small screen, you name it so long as it's Android OS & the other stipulations.

Must be willing to trade something laser related for the phone. I haven't got the resources right now to invest in a new phone.

I'm not looking at spending a lot of $$ for this experiment phone. A loaner may even work if you've got a spare phone laying around that I could use for a few days and return to you.

Here's why I need it. I am part of the transition customers from Alltel into the AT&T network. I had a free data plan with Alltel and when they transitioned me over to AT&T, they kept the unlimited data intact. AT&T does NOT HAVE an unlimited data plan and when I say unlimited, I MEAN UNLIMITED and I pay not one penny for it! I use on average of 10-30Gb of data a month utilizing my tether on my phone. If I try to buy a new phone from AT&T, they will remove the grandfathered data plan and I'll have to pay for a capped data plan. So, I'm looking to see if swapping my simcard into a different phone (android in this case) will allow me to continue to use the data features. I'm doing it this way because I've seen online that folks have switched over to Iphone units and the data stops working because AT&T provides a completely different plan package to Iphones than it does android. So I'd like to run an experiment to see if the data works when switching from WebOS to Android. But I don't want to purchase a full fledged phone if the experiment doesn't work. If the experiment DOES work, then I'll invest in a good phone EVENTUALLY.

Thanks for looking.

OUCH! I just sold mine last week. No joke, AT&T is just awful in the east coast. Paid $600 to terminate the contract to save money and headaches.

Good luck finding one though!

yeah but you gotta admit not having to pay anything for that kind of a data plan is worth preserving.

That is true, just saying my experience with them wasn't so great ;)

Whenever you do get a phone let us know if it works out, it may be a pretty neat break in the system.

A guy a work with has AT&T with unlimited data. He purchased it before they stopped offering it....

Meanwhile I pay $15 per 200mb I use. I always go over at least once a month.....

I suppose I could try one from a different network that IS unlocked so long as it takes a SIM. That is the point of unlocking them right?

I have an iPhone 3gs I could send you. It was by default a at&t phone but I unlocked it for other service providers. It works fine other than the power button being extremely temperamental. I gave it to my sister but she wanted an android phone instead. I think that's the only phone I can give you atm. I suppose if you just want to test it I could send it to you for the price of shipping. I have to get to the post office anyway. It will give me a reason to get my ass up and get there. Anyway let me know. It DOES accept a sim card.

Sure why not. Not exactly the test I want to do, but it will give me a better idea of viability of the android test if it works. If it works, then it probably won't work for android. :) Trust me, I won't be keeping the Iphone. I absolutely HATE Iphones.

Hey ken, i just talked to my buddy that works at At&t and he said that you will NOT lose the unlimited plan with an upgrade or by just transfering the SIM, id go to your local store and ask for more info, but he says that when he upgrades people with unlimited its an permanant grandfather unless they change it down the road, and it seems Verizon is the only carrier that makes your lose it whe you upgrade

that's funny cause I've talked to AT&T and each and every one I've talked to has told me that I would lose the data package because each and every phone has it's own specific data plan. An Iphone has a Iphone data packet, the Android has an Android data packet and a Iphone won't recognize a Android data packet.

Honestly it sounded like bullschmit to me, damn reps are always trying to increase their sales!

I see what your doing with the Iphone there Jeffrey, yer trying to convert me to a Isheep by letting me keep it for longer and hopefully fall in love with it ;-) LOL

LOL naw. The problem is I can't get rid of the damn thing. I actually prefer and own an android device. But hey. If YOU like apple devices I won't judge! Well maybe a little :p

Hahaha trust me, I will never "love" anything "Apple". cept apple butter.. that's good stuff there.

I did want to throw in there for the benefit of RayKay, that I've seen online from users swapping SIMs that if you throw a SIM from a Iphone into an Android on AT&T your data WILL NOT work.

PED, ya looking to sell or just loan?
