okey well i recently came across the KipKay version of a laser being built,there are other ways-i know tht  KipKays version doesnt allow a resistor so possibly allowing the diode to be fryed but also when i get a dvd laser diode do i need a dvd-burner or can i get a dvd player?i got as dvd player once took the diode out and got a diode put it in a maglite and boom red light put hand in front of and ouch! my hand got a 3rd degree burn next day well i lost the diode from it being fryed but i need help with choices of diodes and websites for the cheapest thnks any help and yes this is long ;D

well idk it was weird ill double check the decomposing body of the player...yep its a dvd player but its also a burner nvrmind forget the whole dvd player only thing but i still need assistance any help or suggestions thnks wutabout yu senkat?

third degree burns involve charring of flesh and massive underlying tissue damage. a third degree burn should be admitted to hospital via ambulance as soon as possible.

I'm certain you didn't do that with a laser diode unless you heated it to white-hot temperatures in a forge, then pressed it into your skin for several seconds to a minute... even then, I'm not convinced you'd get anything more than a nasty 2nd degree burn.

anyways, to answer your question, read these boards for a few weeks before you try anything again. read up on all the things you need, when you think you've got it, read some more. then, you won't need to ask these silly questions, you'll know what you did wrong. here is a good start.
you need to build a constant-current driver so the diode doesn't succumb to thermal runaway, and no, dvd players will have much lower powered lasers than burners.
