Hi guys,
not been on here for a few years maybe.
It's that time of the year we go camping sleeping in tents in the countryside and I am in need of a powerful but more importantly "bright" blue laser pointer with good beam charachteristics.
In my time I had a few 473nm RPL lasers from Optotronics so have always been used to that standard of quality.
445/447nm single mode diodes are new to me but heck they are cheap!!
I'm looking for a fully assembled and ready to use laser pointer that uses either CR123 or AAA/AA batteries. Oh and if it's rechargeable, that would be a bonus too.
It's got to output atleast a stable 1 watt and more importantly will have to have good beam divergence as it will mainly be used for pointing at objects far away ( maybe half a km or so)
I have $200 to spend and this has to include shipping to the United Kingdom.
Please let me know what options are open to me, thanks :)

Hey there (or welcome back )!

There is no 445nm single mode diode available yet for the common market. We just have the multimode diodes here.

For better divergence, you may look for a built with correction optics. But this is going to run you more than $200 shipped.

The B/S/T section is full off good offers for >1W 445nm builts ;)

Hello there.
All handheld 445nm diode lasers have somewhat crappy beam divergence,
at half a kilometer away you will have quite a large "dot" (more a rectangle).
How large? I don't know, maybe a meter across, maybe a bit less....

That being said, these lasers are great. And greatly dangerous, too.
I suggest you browse the buy/sell/trade forum a bit, there are usually
a bunch of offers.

Besides hobbyists builds, there is one guy Garoq "Survival Lasers" who sells these
commercially on an ongoing basis.
