Re: MXDL 405nm building kits (>100mW)

Yes, it's short for Kryo Photon (Cooled Light). Because it is bade copmletely from aluminum and the laser diode fits directly in the module head. In the case of MXDL, the laser diode is mounted in a 12x30mm module from AixiZ, which is mounted in a heat sink, which is mounted in the head of the MXDL. That's a lot of contact points with reduced contact area. Heat sinking os less. Another point is that the Kryton takes much larger batteries.

Damn spell checker!!

Anyhow, if the MXDL has so many contact points (and therefore, lower thermal efficiency), how about using a thermal paste like Artic Silver 5 or something like that in-between those contact points?

Re: MXDL 405nm building kits (>100mW)

Sorry guys, I made a mistake in writing down the power of the most powerful one. It is actually 170.7mW. I've adjusted the prices as well and all got a bit cheaper except the last one. Luckily no-one has chosen one already.

Re: MXDL 405nm building kits (>100mW)

Zom-B, if I were to build my kit in my current MXDL (which takes 2 cr123a's) would this effect the output of the laser? for example you will be tuning this based off of 3 AAA batteries that put out a total of 3.6 volts, while I would be using 2 cr123a batteries that are putting out double that! is this safe? or is it better off I just use the MXDL that comes with the kit?

Sorry, input voltage limit is 5.5V, so two lithium-ion batteries is too much.

Still waiting for parts. I've received the batteries and the heatsinks, drivers and hosts are on their way.

I'm interested in that #6 kit :) also how long do you think it will be before the kits are ready?

I guess it'll depend on DX for one and Dr.Lava's flexdrives for another. Also time for people to respond to Zom-B to claim or abandon their reservations ;)

I've received the drivers. Now it's up to DX how long it will take. People who ordered can start paying now for the kit.

From now on, I will tune the drivers at the correct current as kits are ordered. I can't do this right away because some people will choose to down tune their laser.

I am however making the instruction manual with photos as I write this. Here's a quick preview:

man... I hope that those hosts get there soon! :p I do have some stupid questions for you... About how long once you ship would it take to get to the U.S. about? Oh, and in the slight chance that they decide to look in the package... there's not something that would trigger them to confiscate it, is there? Sorry, just paranoid and anxious for my first high-powered laser :D

It will take 5-7 days plus the time for me to pack the stuff and plan a trip to the post office (which could be a week or so)

I think there's nothing in there that would be confiscated, it's not a working laser after all, just parts.

I received the MXDLs. The packages look all crumbled up but the flashlights themselves seem unharmed.

The "Ingredients" :eek::

Whoops, the lenses are not in the photo. Oh, I guess they are still collecting dust in the corner :-X. Eehm, they're in a zip lock bag, so no dust on the lenses themselves :p
