I'm surprised you didnt sell it on eBay for $700, like the other ones.

I just can't wait until the 445's make it into the 5mW range. I plan to make myself a 50-75mW one, although even at that power it can still be incredibly dangerous. But at least it is significantly less dangerous than a 1+ Watt one.

But with all that said, it seems I am in a minority here. I just want a laser that I can enjoy the looks of rather than for burning the heck out of stuff. Sure burning can be amusing for a little while, but if nobody can even look at what your are doing without goggles, its almost pointless.
It seems that because we labeled the Casio 445nm a 1 Watt LD..
some members seem to think it can only Lase at 1 Watt..

I've found that the Threshold output of the Casio 445nm LD is at
~7mW...

It is an extremely easy matter to turn down the current of a Laser
Driver to have the LD output 50-70mW as you are waiting for...

Sorry for the thread jack WB...

No worries, I don't consider it a thread jack when the info is useful or pertinent to another comment.

I have found that these LD's can be run as low as 5mW, but without some sort of temp control, they drop off rapidly as they warm up and the threshold increases. I was thinking of a possible solution to this for say a pen build...

I have been playing with this idea and will be posting a thread on how to get the output down and stable with no active cooling. There is some interest in this as well, as not everybody wants a hazardous portable

This thing is insane! How much can you increase the output with the aspheric lens?

I haven't tested with an aspheric, but my guess would be another couple hundred mW.

You sir, fit into the third category of my earlier post IMO

I would be interested to see a test of this thing with a G-1 lens. My beast is putting out 1640mW with a G-1 lens but if this one is doing 1.5W with an Aixiz glass I would think it could be even higher. I have not seen any 445's in a flashlight host that put more than mine yet but this could be it. And there will be more to follow I am sure.

I would love to see a driver that will do a max of 1700mA and fit in a small host. That would be sweet.

I'm going to attempt parallel drivers in my next 445 build to deal with that; hopefully it'll work as intended (it should, in theory at least).

I think I might just have a host to pull that off. In my next personal... Fins and a copper HS

Gonna have to name it 'hot potato'

Measuring this on my LaserBee ran it quickly off the scale. With the datalogger running, the max is 1390mW.

I tested this on MM DIY meter which has been crefully calibrated.. On that meter, im seeing 1595mW, but called it a 1.5 to err on the side of caution.

It gets warm and fast, not sure if the LD would just give up at 1.7A, but its worth trying once.

You can get 1750mA if you add a 5th 7135 to your driver

What driver are you running BTW? And at what current?

So the idea is if I set up say two microboost or flexdrives set to 850mA in parallel it would give me 1700mA? That would be neat. Would both drivers run off one battery or would you want two separate power batteries one driving each?

If this works I have my next project.

Yep, that's the idea. Take a look at this thread for some more details. I was hoping to use this method to beat your beast, but I'm unless work lets up and gives me some freetime soon, you'll probably beat me to it

Sorry Wannaburn for the threadjack.
@AdamCaudill
Well you have definitely peaked my interest which I will note if I get it up and running. I see a handheld in my future set to 1.7A Now for the fun. This method may also reduce the heat issue with the drivers when running at 1.5A.

I'm really hoping that's the case, as the diode will be generating plenty of heat at that power. Otherwise, may have to add a small fan or something of that nature to keep the heat in check.
