From my experience, They're better used for lower power diodes. A voltage spike MAY have killed two of my PHR-803s, but its also worked fine with an 805 and another 803. I read somewhere that people hypothesize it has to do with voltage spikes. I assume that you'd just need to add a capacitor to the output, right? But either way, I think you've got a good idea on waiting a bit. I have a feeling that if problems arise, there will be a V2 out.
