Re: Laser Harp kits - Batch 2 - 10 left!

These are just kits or can you opt for a pre-assembled one? (for an additional fee of course)

csshih can assemble the board for you at a small fee, though he hasn't got the resources or time to assemble full harps, lasers and all.

Re: Laser Harp kits - Batch 2 - 10 left!

I was just thinking ( I know, I've been warned) Someone was talking about a laser harp
in other than green and making it change color.

I was just contemplating about hooking up a WF Engine to a laser harp and a programed
chip to make it so the harp could change it's own colors or not.

It would need some programing of which I know nothing about but I think the two devices
could make a pretty impressive display and I plan on making one.

Any one any thoughts

Re: Laser Harp kits - Batch 2 - 10 left!

My immediate thoughts are:

1. You would somehow need to control the WF driver from the harp's modulation output, otherwise you wouldn't get single beams anymore.

2. The colours of the lasers changing rapidly would probably wreak havoc on the sensors unless they were very closely matched in brightness.

Using multiple colours in the laser harp is a very simple task, all you will need to do is solder 2 extra wires to the PCB and you have 2 more colour outputs, however I haven't coded anything for it yet. I'm hoping to get all my stuff shipped here in a week or 2, so I'll have a look into it more then.

I'm still thinking about mixing some red into the blue, but the prob I have is that my Blue uses analog modulation, and my red uses a grounding modulation...

I'm also still thinking about finishing my harp too... ;-)

Thanks. Still trying to talk the better half into letting me spend more money. :yh:

Yes please do some programing in this area for multi colors if you can, Thanks :)

It kinda sounds like there may need to be a second processor to handle this job of multi colors

Later...

Re: Laser Harp kits - Batch 2 - 10 left!

I am building a laser harp as part of my senior project and am wondering about what kind of power supply i am going to need. Im not too knowledgeable on this subject so any help would be great

Hi, the laser harp needs a power supply of at least +/-12V differential. Most galvo sets come with either a +/-15V PSU or a +/-24V PSU, either will work.

Is this like a therimen from long ago where sound is made by passing your hands over the beams? Where does the music come from?
I assume that special sounds come from computer synthesys but do your hands make the music?
How big is the "keyboard"?
HMike

Is this a display device or a musical instrument -- That's what I need to know. Call me old!!!!

Re: Laser Harp kits - Batch 2 - 10 left!

When you put your hands into the beams, the microcontroller detects which beam has been triggered, and outputs a MIDI signal.

The MIDI signal is designed to be a generic interface between musical devices - like USB. The laser harp device itself doesn't produce any sound, you need to connect it to something like a MIDI keyboard, or a USB MIDI device with software running on your computer. The upside to this is you can make the harp have any sound you like, and even control stuff like fog machines! So you could set your harp up to sound like a guitar, drums, whistle, anything you like with the keyboard/software you use.

I have enough trouble with my computers trying to run 7.1 audio for projos. I don't even know if I have midi but this looks like fun. Guess I'll stick with my real guitar...........

Re: Laser Harp kits - Batch 2 - 10 left!

I am in the process of building my laser harp but encountered a problem with the galvo which has me stumped. Im not completely sure where to connect the driver board to the actual laser harp board. Any help would be appreciated, i have a 20Kpps High Speed Galvo Scanner

Regards,
Tim

Thats an interesting driver board ... That said I'm not really sure. Can you tape the board on top off? Or maybe it could be those connectors on the left side? Maybe have a look back where you got them from and see if there is an instruction manual.

Only 9 left .. ever ;)

Re: Laser Harp kits - Batch 2 - 9 left!

You can take the top board off but there are no connections under it besides the power input. The ones on the left side are for different laser color blanking and one that im not sure whats for that is only a 2 pin connection. There is only one other connection that is for 3 pins but is a different type of connection piece so that might be it? Since i ordered it off of ebay they didnt send me any manuals besides a short pdf file saying what the different dip switches do.

Do all of the connections on the laser harp board have to be connected for the LCD to read that the lasers ready?

Thanks,
Tim
