I am selling rkcstr V3 adjustable drivers with a laser diode socket and wire sockets on it to make DIY laser builds easier. Please let me now if you are interested
they are $40 a peace
they are pretested before being shipped
Due to the sensitivity of these drives they are sold AS-IS with no warranty

i will preset them for 5 dollars more

This could be from Steve at surplus, Matt, or even Tyler. Tyler was working on these too. I thinks its Steve though. I could be wrong.

Just to make sure it's understood, using sockets for the laser diode is always a bad idea. If the connection breaks while in operation for even a tiny fraction of a ms for any reason, whether the diode pins move in the socket a little or the socket and pins experience expansion and contraction from temperature changes, PFFT! the diode is dead.

It's always best to make sure the diode-driver connection is either soldered directly, or connected via a good locking connector. That way there are less reason that the diode could die, and they do like to die very easily.

Igor told me the same thing when I asked him if a diode socket was possible. One spike from a loose connection and the diode is dead.

You are abosolutely correct... there is no way in he!! that I would use
a socket on a Driver driven LD...:cryyy:

these sockets are made for diodes and i have a burner laser made using one and never had a problem even when i dropped it
it only broke when a certain person in mi family put 24 volts through it
( don't ask )

How much are the sockets .25 cents for 10?

lets say the driver is 15.00 , your asking for 25.00 more to solder sockets on the driver?

and no warranty?

Sounds like a Tyler move.

I think i'll pass.

I'm familiar with those sockets, but regardless of their intended use I remain skeptical.

Don't get me wrong, here. I'm not trying to kill your product, but I don't believe in using sockes for what I know are very good reasons.. I admire your desire to create helpful prodiucts, but I also feel it's important to keep people informed of the facts.

So you are saying that your personal, anecdotal experience is more valid than several well known sources AND that you would like the members here to believe you, an unknown, (and the one making the profit from the sale) over more than one experienced veteran?

These sockets are a BAD idea. Not only are they dangerous to your diode, but they preclude the use of any of the well known hosts that we have developed tutorials for.

Those wire sockets on the supply side are pretty silly as well. Rkcstr put good, strong, solder pads with holes on there. Why would you add another connector?

Peace,
dave

Sorry I don't mean to knock your product but I agree with everone else so far sockets on laser diods is just plain bad, it dosn't matter that they were made for laser diodes that realy dosn't make them safe it just makes the manufacture of them more money if he puts that label on them. and again even if there were no problem with the contacts, as Dave said the extra space the socket takes up will through it out of fitting in a lot of the common hosts we use. wish it wasn't so sockets would be the bomb but they are just to chancy.
Happy Holidays
