Was it an 18v supply that measured at 19v? You might already know this but the ratings on power supplies are usually higher than what they are specified as. If the supply states 19v it might be 20 or more. Regardless 19 is over 18 .

the reason that most psu's are that way is cause they aren't regulated. They rely on the load of whatever it is you plug in to bring the voltage down to where it's supposed to be. The LM7805 will take up to 18v but obviously as laserbee has indicated that extra energy needs to be converted into heat. it's just best to stick with 9v.

I tried 3x Li-ion and 1x dummy.
It's 9-12V 600mA. Works fine.
It's now PORTABLE!

Alkaline 9V was somewhat low amperage so Kenolite's reading fluctuated more severely.

for those that have recieved these already, I'm going to be sending some electrical components your way. There is a fix that needs to be addressed as it's messing up the readings as well as potentially blowing up heads. This is something that is very easy to do... there are 4 capacitors total that get wired in to the dc/dc converters. a bypass cap set that go into the input and output and a set of caps on the output. I'll provide detailed instructions for everyone to follow.

In the meantime, keep useage of the meters to a minimum.

Hey Kenom...

you could just post a detailed Drawing with part values on the Thread
for the members that have access to caps and you can save the price
of the caps and the shipping for those guys like me...

Is it similar to the Drawing I sent you last week... just with an extra cap
on the DC/DC converter's Input...

BTW... the Lites can easily run on batteries... They only draw 60mA-70mA
on 9Volts... depending on which how many segments are lit on the display..
That's about the current draw of the LaserBee I that runs off a NiMH 9V
battery...

it is similair laserbee. Instead of your solution which only calls for a pair of electrolytic capacitors on the outputs of the dc/dc converter, this new setup also calls for 2 pair of bypass ceramic capacitors. both on the input and the output. 1 .01uF ceramic and 1 .1uF ceramic in series on both the input and output. so that's 3 pairs total. Ok I'm confusing myself. you have one 5v input that needs 1 .01uF and a .1uF in series. then your 9v out requires a set of .1 and .01uF capacitors on each of the outputs. +9v and -9v.

So in reality, you've got 3 capacitors on the output using the electrolytic capacitors as well which are rated at 100uF 25v.

Hi Ken,

Just for clarification, will you be implementing this "fix" into our Kenometers that are still under construction and/or yet to be shipped?

Hey Kenom...
are you sure that the .01uF and .1uF caps are connected in series
and not in parallel to the Input and output...

There will not be any current flowing through the caps to power
the DC/DC converter input or output...

Now you're confusing me...
A drawing would REALLY be helpful...

I could except there was only a very few people that I used the 1 dc/dc converter in. Well, it doesn't really matter as the 2 dc/dc converters do the same thing as the 1. I'll get to work using yours.

Hey Kenom...

how is that drawing coming along for the Cap Mods for the Lite problem fix...

BTW have you figured out how to add the Zero Offset circuit...
a drawing of that would be helpful for all the proud Lite owners....

Update.

Fix for teh Kenometer lites. If you do not have the value capacitors indicated please let me know I will mail you some.

you need
3 .01uf >25v ceramic capacitors
2 100uf >18v electrolytic capacitors.

This is the zero offset mod... It implies that you have got the capacitor mod in place. Also the potentiometer has resistors connected to each leg except the wiper. The value of those resistors is 100k
