BUSTED !!!!! but you ain't seen nothin' yet- lots of new EFX pix coming soon---tracking says my Ken-o-Lites are coming MONDAY---happy happy joy joy--ps --you never did tell me the polarity for the plug on the 9vdc wallwart--unless you sent me one with my meters(if so i will know the polarity monday)---ALSO are you going to trade me a new kenometer deluxe for an argon set-up?(plug 'n play- just add a fan/dryer hose) think about it--BLUE LASER--ahhhh!!! --must have blue--must have blue--- HZ <(*_*)>

Whoa....

15 Volts is too high for the Kenometer Lites....
There is a non Heat Sinked 5Volt regulator that will need to
dissipate the difference in voltage (~10volts) into heat...

You should be using a 9Volt DC power Supply or Wall Wart...
That is what was supplied with my Lites...

BTW.... if anyone with a Lite that exibits very low negative
readings at times... PM me I have a fix...

yeah that wallwart is a bit too high as laserbee said. I could throw you a heatsink for the regulator but all that heat inside the enclosure would be bad. Hell at 9v it's generating bad heat.

Yeah, I plugged in my 19V laptop AC adapter because it had the right plug and I didn't have any other wall warts and it would work for about 30 seconds before the heat would drive the display crazy.

For most devices that need wall warts, Making sure the voltage is not too high is the more critical thing to get right from my experience when trying to find a power supply. You also need to make sure it can provide enough current but if voltage or amperage is too low it seems devices just don't work or don't work properly. If the amperage is more than required then the device only pulls what it needs. If the voltage is too high... well it might not work again :).

Of course things that take a battery where the battery itself is the regulation (like Kenom's unregulated Teenie laser pointer) then amperage does matter.

That is my understanding of things anyway. I think you took a pretty big risk using a power supply that was much higher voltage than what was required. I assume you don't do things like that often or you would probably be having a lot of electronic device failures in your home :).

:wtf:... The suggested voltage for the Kenometer Lites id 9V DC...
That is more than double the Voltage...

That's like plugging your house lights into 220Vac...
would be nice and bright.... for a few milliseconds...

I hope you haven't damaged the DC/DC converter or the
electronics in the Thermopile Head...:cryyy:

It still works just fine. I don't think I did any permanent damage. I wouldn't've done it but Ken said it could take up to 18V.

oh I'm sorry. the one I was using was 1A but it will take higher. You can also run it up to 18v if you can't find anything in the 9v-12v range. I would recommend lower as the lm7805 does get hot and the more current and voltage you feed it the hotter it will get. Which of course will skew the readings of the thermopile just a little bit.

I would recommend anythhing from 500ma-1A

Well... if Ken OKed it then it must fine...:yh:

I just checked my DC/DC converters and it does have
9V to 18Volts written on them as an input voltage...
So I guess... no worries...
