Default Guidesman massive "double" heatsink

I was feeling creative and wanted something with excellent heat sinking capabilities for the massive power 445's. This is what came of it.

I am looking to get $35 shipped in the CONUS/Canada, or trade for a flexdrive and 445 diode or 10/12x Blu-ray diode.

Thats a nice looking heat sink. Someone should snap it up quick.

Thank you. Although it has no similarities besides the chassis, I hope that Moh does not feel stepped on by me offering this.

Nice work. The back of that unit looks like a good place to sink some flexdrives.

There`s a problem with this "massive" heatsinks. If the air (in this case) can`t get near the diode, the heatsink will be hot inside and cold inside. It would be appropiate to make a way for the air to get near the diode. Once this heatsink is warm, it takes a lonk time to disipate the heat. I think this heatsinks are totally useless.

This heatsink should be quite effective.
Perhaps you are forgetting that Aluminum is a great heat mover. Exposing the heatsink to the air and implementing a large surface area "finned" design helps increase the amount of heat that can effectively escape the metal to the air.

I think it could be much more effective if the external surface would be larger, I doubt about the aluminium near the diode to be cool at any time. That design helps to reduce heat but it would be better with less solid thickness and bigger wings / blades. Mass is not synonym of heat dissipation and that is something that I continuolsy see here when you make homemade heatsinks. External surface is the main factor to remove heat. Mass will just delay the heat to go trough the aluminium. The heatsink will be more time cold but once it is hot... I`m 100% that will take a long time to cool down.

Yes I understand what you are saying.
However, assuming this heat-sink is used with a 445nm diode outputting about 1W, heat generated will be about 3W.
This is a lot of heat compared to what some other laser diodes produce but isn't enough to need over-engineered heat moving devices.
Also, if the heat-sink to host contact is good, the host itself will provide more surface area for the heat to escape from.

You might be missing the point here.
I don't think the goal was to make a perfect heat-sink but rather to make a compact variation that is more effective than the "enclosed" type heat-sinks.
The builder has accomplished that.

Yes, I`ve been very extreme with my first opinion. Even I still think it`s very massive, this heatsink for a 1W laser will work fine. Thanks for your answers

$35 shipped. I don't think I will be offering these unless someone requests me to build one for them. I want it gone to make room for more goods.
