The JR version will work without modification but a capacitor is suggested.

just be careful with selling these things! people can be really silly with lasers at times, and even though it may not look bad, it can really make you blind!!! these diodes will cut electrical tape!!!!!! can you imagine what they would do to eyes!!! i don't even want to think about that!

I ship worldwide ! Now - DO keep in mind that you can easily kill these suckers, so I DO recommend purchasing more than one - not for my own gain, mind you - but for YOURS ! Also, I make damned near zero off of shipping only one diode - especially overseas, so it is GREATLY appreciated if more than one is ordered, but again, it is up to you ! These little guys are VERY nice to work with, and you will want more than one on hand I assure you :-)

i saw somewhere that the IR light from DVD burner diodes would be dangerous, is that true?

DJ - ONLY the IR diodes from a DVD burner would be dangerous as far as IR emmissions is concerned - there is ZERO IR coming out of plain, red, diodes - a DVD burner has TWO DIFFERENT diodes in it - one is IR, the other one (the kind I am selling here) is 650-660nm red diodes, and contain zero IR. They are STILL DANGEROUS though ! Be careful not to expose your eyes, or anyone else's eyes to the beam, or incidental reflections - do not aim them at any living being or thing, do not aim them at any moving object, or soon to be moving object, like a car, bus, train, or plane....etc....there are lots of warnings for these diodes, make sure you know them ALL before ordering and or using them for anything ! Thanks !

I am very aware of what these things can do. "selling at school" i think gives you a bad idea, I will definitely ONLY sell to responsible people I know and trust.
Other thing, elecrtonics teacher @ my school is excellent, I think I will ask him some stuff about these. Read a DDL post in GB #1 for these
Quote:
Those are some real nice curves I'm seeing there! I'm really looking forward to this. I really can't believe how efficient this diode is. At an Iop of about 260-270mA it's putting out 250mW. At 2.5 V that's better than 3-to-1! This means very little heat dissipation as opposed to some other diodes (like Blu-Ray *). That is definitely a very good thing * *
By the way, speaking of the Vop, any voltage above the operating voltage simply dissipates into heat, right? So... for ideal conditions, diode voltage needs to be at or very well near 2.5V... do I have this all wrong? I knew I should have paid more attention in my electronics class
I'd like to know this. The PDF datasheet also seems to tell me that if a regulated circuit is used for max current at ~275 mA that will achieve max output at 20 deg C, but if the current limiter works the mW output will drop as temp (deg C) increases.
Does seem obvious but there are issues such as tolerane of components and how tightly the regulator circuit can be tuned.
hmm, should do work now, im in my media class, already finished my Flash animation project.

If you plan to run these at 275 mA, you'll definitely need some kind of heatsinking to make it work for any period of time. All in all, it will still dissipate about half a watt, which is enough to heat up the tiny package and degrade performance.

When applied in a DVD burner, the diode is usually mounted on a metal slide that servers as a heatsink too. The heatsink doesnt have to be big though, something like 20K/W should be more than adequate.

Hello Eric,
I already asked this question here:

http://www.laserpointerforums.com/fo...num=1187649054

Of course it would be nice if someone would actually measure it..

Yes, and yes !

they have shipped out to me - and the dorcy jr will work without any further mods...BUT I would highly recommend that you use a 47Uf capacitor inline to remove and bumps in the power - it will only serve to lengthen the life of your diodes, and hopefully prevent any surges in power for devastating the diode !
