So the lens of the Aixiz is good enough to focus the beam? and if i want to use the full potential of the 250mw i power it with 2x 1,5 volts battery right?

YES - definitely make a circuit though - otherwise they will be VERY bright for a moment, and then that is it !Knasterpijp said:

If you don't feel like building a circuit and just want a quick testfire, i'd suggest at least using a resistor to limit the current. On 2 AA's, something like 10 ohms should be okay, limiting current to 100 mA at 2V diode voltage, and results in 50 mA at 2.5V so you can be pretty sure it'll be above the lasing threshold.
I wouldnt recommend that for any sort of permanent setup, but its a lot less likely to fry your diode than just hooking up 2AA's (like in a minimag) and praying

well the batteries simply supply too much current! these diodes require about 300ma to be high powered, but the batteries can supply over 2 amps at times!! so if you build a driver circuit, it will still provide 3 volts, but at a current around 300ma.
Knasterpijp, as many of us here will tell you, direct drive is bad, bad, bad. That video was a bunch of very horrible advice. Powering a diode directly through 2 AA batteries is simply a death wish. What I would suggest is to at least use a resistor, like Benm suggested, or build a drive circuit. There are many guides available here. You just have to go and read up about it all.

The 'problem' with laser diodes (and LEDs for that matter) is that their current-vs-voltage curve is very steep in the operating area. This means a very slight increase in voltage can cause a big increase in current. A laser diode could, for example, be fine at 2.6 volts, but badly overdriven at 2.7V. A series resistor remedies this to some extent, as it makes the curve of the overall system less steep.
Batteries provide a certain voltage, with current only limited by internal resistance. Both vary among batteries, discharge level and due to things like temperature. This can in some cases work out fine, but that IS a matter of luck, not design or science.
Building an acceptable current source is not that hard to do. It will require a bit of soldering, but i think it should by no means be more difficult than, for example, fitting a diode into a case with a lens and all.

When do you envision these shipping, SenKat? Also, do you happen to have any Aixiz modules to spare? The only place I see them is on eBay for a 10-pack. I just want to get one to see if I have the skills to build one of these things myself. If I'm successful, I may pick up a 10 pack and get started, but for now, 1 will do.

You don't have to buy the 10 pack. You buy one with the diode already mounted in it, and replace it with the GB diode.

You said i need at least a resistor (4 /5 OHM) right? But where are the LM317 TO-39 or TO-220 package for then? is to endurance the LD lifetime?
I use 2x 1,5 volts batteries. You use 2x 3volts batteries. Do i need different parts now?
I am confused about which parts i must buy to match the 3volts PSU and to get the best out of the LD.
