No offense Gazoo, but all the diodes I have seen have perfectly spaced/centered legs. As in all are identical. I just took some AA batts and went crazy touching the wires together to see if I could get a flicker-- Hindsight, HORRID idea! So I guess I need a little education as well!

Question: I am going to be gone for the weekend, leaving in a few hours. The only problem there is SenKat's diodes were shipped 4 days ago and haven't arrived yet. Just checked my mail. How will the diodes stand the heat/cold? Our mailbox is locked, so I am not worried about someone stealing it, but its been incredibly hot of late.

It seems like there have been MANY mailing delays :( Some have received their stuff, others have not - The diodes should be fine in the mailbox, just allow them to reach room temperature prior to messing with them.

also, Gazoo was correct about the pinouts - if you face the pins towards you, wit hthe common leg (the one that is grounded to the case) pointing at the 12 o'clock position, the positive leg is the one at the 7 O'clock position, and the neg leg is the one at 12 O'clock.

Sorry, but with all of the diodes I have worked with, one of the legs is connected directly to the case and it is the negative lead. I am positive the diodes we will be receiving in this group buy will be the same. If you look at the diode from the rear and compare it to my diagram, you will see which leg is positive. This is one time I wish I had a decent camera so I could take a picture and show you.

The red "DVD style" diodes I have seen are case ground (-).
The 808 LD's used in greenies all seem to be case (+). Always ask or check the specs - they can vary.
Gazo is right however that the pin which is not insulated is connected to the housing and with these diodes is negative (-).

I got my diodes today, pretty fast shipping considering it was the USPS lol! I hooked up a diode to a pot and had it on the maximum resistance possible. When i turned it on all I saw was a faint red glow. I kept on turning it up and I barely norticed any change in brightness. I was devastaded at the LED I had in my hands. But then I upped the pot a little more and my table was covered in red! It worked! I put it in the end of an AixiZ module and tryed some burning with it. It lights matches instantly, it's a better burner than my X105! Thanks Senkat! I'm gonna order some more in the new group buy.

I got mine too-- Haven't tested em yet cause I don't have a pot or any regulating circuit! :) They look very clean, perfectly packaged! Nice, long pins too-- About 3x longer than the DVD diode I pulled before.

Must... Resist... Temptation... To hook up to unprotected AA's!!!

I got mine [smiley=dankk2.gif]

Now I have to figure out how to put it all together.

I'm not in a big hurry, so I'll probably wait to see what is posted.

I just got mine as well - Thanks a ton Greg!

Now I have to go out and buy some parts for Daedal's circuit. :)

WOW... I absolutely am being too damn full of myself and should shut up before I say it... but I really enjoy this being called "Daedal's Circuit"! Thank you guys so much for saying that and making me a very happy LPFer ;D :D

As always, SenKat has come through with some of the absolute best diodes I have ever used! I got this thing to light a sharpied match from across the hall with my home-made labby style module. No duty cycle and very nicely sized. Also, for major power boosts... It's very easy to just put the whole thing in deep freeze for a few minutes without the lens, then put the lens right on there and then up the current to about 600mA without a worry! ;D ;)

I am also in the works for getting a similar circuit capable of regulating the current as good as the original circuit, but this one only needs a 3V supply. That makes it easier to power with one CR123A cell or a couple AA/AAA cells :)

LOL! Well, you introduced me to that circuit, so that's why I call it Daedal's circuit. Just makes sense to me! ;)

A match from across the hall? Not too shabby. Do you know approximately what amperage you were driving it at? Oh well, I guess I'll have to build a circuit and find out for myself. I'm glad that we can overdrive these. 600mA should give a pretty good output. ;)

Dangit, now I'll be constantly awaiting a 3V circuit. I have 5 project boxes with a removable door for access to a battery compartment, and all they will allow room for is a 2AA/AAA pack. If I could get a good circuit (something besides resistor + cap!) in there running from 3V, that would be awesome.

Thanks again to Greg for these awesome diodes in the first place. I can't wait to finally break mine out in the coming days.
