How are you getting 3.3 watts with a single element lens??

I bought a former members SH-032 that you made and it is a very nice unit but only makes 2.6 watts.

Do you have a demo video of the 3.3???? You are no doubt a talented builder and I mean no negativity. I'm just curious sir.

I was selling 2.6W and 2.75W 450nm builds then.

I try and cull the diodes. The way you do not attenuate the beam too much is to use a Quality single Glass aspheric lens. With multi element lenses, you have to use more power into the lens and will probably destroy it.

The 3.3W was putting out 3.4W before lens. I get the lenses from an orlando, fl manufacturer.

I did not take videos of this one, I do have videos of my others, including lab lasers etching, cutting wood (with CNC)

From the picture of the listing it looks like the laser is at 5mm from the ophir... how can you measure a real power output at that distance?

Laser output photons are photons. Whether it is 1" or 10" The inside brass lens holder, since it is shiny metallic gives some reflections from it's surfaces.

I measure at different distances with different lasers. There is no change. Also, I wish to fill as much of the area of the pyroelectric sensor without having a very high density beam which will ablate the sensor.

Very nice laser, should go quick..
I also agree with LPM Reading, it has no effect even if you measure it from 1 feet , they're the same photons..

But yeah some of the side splashes give or take 50mW can add to the original reading but that's photons too !! :beer:

Your hand will give off 10mw alone; the heat from the laser might screw up the reading
I think that is what norbyx was getting at.

I have a question about this. Yes photons are photons , but if we are using a thermal sensor , wouldn't the distance , let's say 3 inches matter from 5 ft?

If the sensor is sensitive enough it may give a false reading. I know our hobby may not be down to the .00th degree but I think we should show the difference between thermal and optical sensors.

i would think air density and dust is a minumal varient but this is not my area of expertise.

We accept +/-5% from a TEC thermopile @3.3W it should happily measure the same unit at 3.45W or 3.1W so what's the point :beer:

Unbelievably powerful considering the size of the host. Although the duty cycle's been sacrificed (30sec on, perhaps slightly more) I found this build to be rather remarkable and deserves a place in a potential buyer's precious collection:)
