http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14880

This sku threw me off...I automatically assumed that it would work in both battery configs. From what I gather 18650's have 18mm diamater whereas cr's have 17mm...crap, oh well no biggy, have you tried to squeeze it in though? Too bad would have been perfect for a step-up driver, guess a linear one will be used.

Thanks
brtaman

Yeah, like I said, not even close. In fact, most of my "Ultra-Fire" rechargables are a tight-squeeze on a hot-day. It sounds like the 17650 would work, but DX only has a single un-protected model and they are out of stock. You can use a silicon-diode to drop the voltage on a Flex-Drive.

I have no issue with being proven wrong it means I have even more accurate info than I did before, that is the most important thing. I am not sure why I didn't find those the other day, but I have some ordered now, thanx!!
BTW, the Sonar-modules are coming along very well, I am still shooting to have them finished by Monday, but shipping will depend on the switches arriving from Digi-Key, which should be today or Monday.

Am I getting this right, the barrel accepts 2x RCR123A protected, or were it 2x RCR2?
What other batterys better suited for a step-up drivers will fit in there?

Basically, We narrowed down the battery choices to 2 CR123 (Lithium Ion, Lithium Primary, rechargeable or not, your preference) or a single 17670 cell, which is about the size of the 2 CR123s. The 2 CR123 can be used to power a red or a low power Violet (More current = more volts) if using the Micro Driver. It can also use the Lavadrive with Lithium primary CR123s, but a .50v dropout diode is required because the Lavadrive can only take up to 5.5 volts. If you are going to use the 17670 cell (Which probably would be more efficient because there is no dropout diode) then you can just plug in the Lavadrive.
Oh and Dark_Horse said that the 18650 will not fit inside of the barrels, so it looks like that the 17670 is the way to go instead.

I wish a 18650 would fit in there, but no chance at all, I am not looking forward to yet another battery-type, but I am going to try the 17670 with a Flex-drive, myself. And yes, the tube will also accept CR123's-protected or not.

So basicly all thatīs left to do is to press-fit my diode of choice into an axis module head including lens and focusring, solder to driver and solder driver to batteryconnector and switch on heatsink? Screw in the aperture cap and Iīd be set?
Ah and of course drop in the battery that suits my needs the best?

Thatīd be great!!

Pretty much, Although the module is not included in the $20 price, nor is the switch, they would be an additional $4 each to cover my costs.
Update: I have spent another weekend devoted to these, *but the pay-off is here. They still need some final clean-up, and test-fits, but the bulk of the heat-sink work is complete ;D ;D.
The switches should be here any day, and I also have the copper-contacts completed. These will be shipping soon.

$75 USD for everything including shipping to the US (international shipping will be a little extra). Except that doesn't include the switch, the switch will however be only a few dollars more at most I'd say. Dark_Horse will say what the extra price for the switch once he organises that.

Great! The switch dark_horse will provide is placed under the switch of the sonar case?
I have another question: How to immobilize the heatsink module inside the case?
Also, is there a spring at the tailcap?
