the suppl;ier i was using said they have dropped the price of the hd-dvd drives(not sleds) down. if theres about 10 ppl interested i can go ahead and order about 10 at a time(dont have a lot of money right now). drives will probably be 35-40$ depending on shipping and western union fees. post here if interested.

ok they are offering to strip the drives themselves without raising the price as well as offering to sell me any phr-803 assemblies that might be broken that they have. i may be able to get some cheaper than i thought...still talking to them.....

So, what do they mean by "broken" sleds? Diodes are still intact, correct? I'm not too concerned about optics, just the precious violet diodes ;D
Also, if you could get them for $15, I'd be interested in AT LEAST 10!

ive explained the concern about the diodes to the supplier already. thats why they are offering this deal. even if we do get a few out of say 20-30 sleds its still a win-win situation in my opinion.

Most of my diodes come from "broken" or "sold for parts only" HD DVD drives. I have never gotten a bad diode out of them. I have gotten some 0811 sleds, but they were good 0811 sleds. Usually the "broken" part is something electronic. They "look" fine. They just won't play a disc.
I generally don't pay more than $15 (shipped) for them. If the price goes above $15, I look elsewhere.
