I am re-opening the sale of the MXDL matched set.  The person who wanted them has dropped off of the face of the earth  :-/

This matched set is built in the MXDL (black) host.  They both have the heavy Jayrob heat sink.  They are both powered by the flexdrive and a single 17670 battery.  Both of these lasers have the Merideth glass module/lens.  They come with the storage/carrying case as shown.  These lasers are set at the upper end of power.  The 405nm is set at 180mW.  The red is set at 320mW.  At these settings they will require a limited duty cycle.  If you want a longer cycle, I will adjust the output to what you want before shipping them.  This set is offered at $325 (shipped in the US)

Re: FS:  Two New Matched Sets

P.S. I am headed off to lecture. I will check in a couple of hours. The earlier posting or PM gets the lasers.

Peace,
dave

Awesome builds there Dave. I'm suprised though that you have taken the MXDL's high but not the Krytons. Both are easily capable of handling high power levels. Now I certainly understand the appeal of having your laser last a long time on the other hand. Nothing I hate worse than having to replace the diode on one of my favorite lasers...

To sweeten the pot for you Dave, I'll be happy to provide you with a complete set of aperture caps, and tailcaps to go with BOTH of those barrels.

The green labby is sold.

The matched sets are still available.

Re: FS:  Two New Matched Sets

Referring to the MXDL set, what is the limited duty cycle you foresee for the lasers with the actual output power?
(Thanks  :))

Re: FS:  Two New Matched Sets

I have a blu-ray at 170mA in a slightly different MXDL with jayrob heat sink, and from what I see (and feel) it doesn't require a duty cycle at all, it just won't heat up. (it once reached 27C/81F after 5 minutes continuously with 22C room temperature)

I wonder, why is it then that people are still talking about duty cycles with jayrob heat sinks?

I absolutely agree.  I just do not have enough data yet to "move the bar" confidently/comfortably.  Below 150mA I don't even worry.  I just walked a gentleman through cleaning up one of my builds that had been left on overnight.  He changed the batteries in the morning and the laser lit.  All we had to do was to clean up some "deposition" on the diode window.  I think that some of the thermal paste was vaporized by the long term heat.

Above 150mA, there is noticeable heat produced by the diode.  A good, heavy heat sink, which the combination Jayrob heat sink and MXDL host provide is capable of dealing with it.  Somewhere out there is one running at 200mA that has changed hands twice now.  However, 190mA is a significant step above 170mA.  I still recommend a duty cycle with this one.  It probably does not need to be a severe as I warn about, but people (especially people new to the capabilities of 405nm) have a tendency to "lose track of time" when using the laser so the warning stays (for now).

I run both of them up to 60 seconds.  I do not do long burns in rapid succession.  The lasers always have plenty of time between set-ups to cool.  I have not done a heat study of the diodes, but at this duty cycle, they have never gotten hot.  As you can see by Zom B's question above, at least the 405nm could probably go for more, but I cannot say that with complete confidence yet.  I think that this duty cycle with the red is fairly well established, although there should be no doubt in your mind that you are on the "experimental edge" with it set at this power.  Most people are running this diode at less than 300mW.

Some people are not comfortable with living on the edge.  That's why I offered to adjust them to whatever the buyer wants. I, obviously, don't have a problem with it.  The difference between a 110mW beam and a 180mW beam IS pronounced and worth the limit.

I don't think so (at least not from Target). They are portable hard drive cases. Case Logic should carry some. Make sure you check the "interior" dimension of the one you find. Another good source are "pencil boxes."

Re: FS:  Two New Matched Sets

My local WalMart has them, they are labeled for the DS Lite, and come in many colors; I have found them perfect for Garmin GPS's w/4.3" screens.

I found them online too, they can be had with the strap inside as shown in the pictures in this thread or with the mess pouch as shown here; there seems to be many variations of  them....so I too would recommend to look at the inside of them to be sure it's the style you want.  These are very cheap and effective and also come in a variety of exterior colors too.

Here's just one source, there are many;
