I HAD STATED I WAS LOOKING FOR A GIFT BOX OR CASE FOR THE KITS, WELL I FOUND IT!!

While in branson on my way home we stopped at a shop to get a shirt....and i stumbled upon these cedar jewelry boxes! The inside is improvised to hold the kits with floral foam, black foam sheets and hot glue lol, but all in all they add a very nice touch to the finished product, i added a picture of the box below.
EVERY KIT COMES SHIPPED IN A CEDAR GIFT BOX!!!
These gift boxes will only be available for this first run of 10 kits sadly...
Now onto the product info....
[/size]

My last kits (Pailide) have finally sold out. So now the time has come to begin a new run of kits (more pailides will be available soon btw).
After search long and hard and asking people for their opinion i have come to this MXDL Silver host to turn into my next kit.
I had originally planned on find a host suitable for a rkcstr driver to help drive prices down on the kits. But alas, i am still searching.
-
Here are some specs on the host.

Color: silver
length: 2.59 inches
diameter: 0.75 inches
Battery: 1x CR123
Driver: Flex drive v4
Switch: Twist on / Twist off
----------------
While taking one apart to examine and find out what kind of heatsink i'll need build, I discovered these flashlights use a threaded ring that screws into the inside of the host.
And on either side of the ring, are lips where the stock driver, and the LED star heatsink are press fit into it.
This made for a great opertunity to design a heatsink which has a small step on the end, allowing the user to press fit it into the retaining ring.
This essentially allows us to assemble it into one "pill" with no moving parts, and then screw it into the host, making it very solid and stable!
I made a picture below intended for the machinist but it kind of explains what i am talking about.

KIT INCLUDES:

  • MXDL host.
  • Custom aluminum heatsink (requires 1.5mm hex for the set screw, same as jayrob and dark_horse heatsinks)
  • Rechargeable 3.6v CR123 battery
  • Cedar gift box with foam inserts
Prices
------------
  • MXDL Kit WITHOUT Flex drive: $40
  • MXDL Kit WITH Flex drive: $65
  • Heatsink ONLY: $15
--------
please take note that ordering a kit WITH flex drive will delay it untill the beginning of sept since Dr. Lava won't have drivers available untill then.
Kits ordered WITH the flex drive will have the driver preset to your desired current.

I made one of these a while back. It was VERY cool! It is absolutely "pocket-size" and you can turn it on and off with one hand.

Peace,

I remember those, I used to sell them way back a year ago. I had trouble withe some of the black ones twist on/off mechanism. Have you encountered that issue with any of your builds and if so how have you corrected?

none have been built yet. I am still waiting on the the hosts to arrive.

since i have not yet got to inspect any of these, i'm assuming the top part of the host makes contact with the PCB when you screw it in and out and this is how the twiist on/off is achieved?

i know a lot of times (notice it on my pailide kits) the anodization wasn't properly removed on the top rim of the handle, which can cause proplem when it tries to make contact with the PCB..

...guess i'll know more when they get here..
usually with these mass produced hosts there are small flaws which in most cases can be easily corrected :) lets hope this is the case!
