Did you build this? If not, what is its history? Who set the driver to 180mA? Is it the old style Rkcstr or the new style Rkcstr? Did you sell your Laserbee or just give up on it?

Peace,
dave

i sold it, and the driver is from rkcstr, he built it for me at that 180ma, the driver was made like 2 weeks ago. and the heatsink is from jay the host is from dx and the batteries and  the laser runs fine i tested it for a while now and performs great

I think (hope) you meant that you built it. So it's a Rckstr "fixed output" drive at 180mA. I guess I'll have to ask Ryan about whether it is "new or old" style. I'd like to continue using his driver in some of my builds, but the 12V limit is causing me some concern. I hope he built this one with the old components so that pushing over 12V (which three 10440's gives you) through it, is OK.

I have some mixed emotions about this. I'm pleased to see more people taking the chance on taking these higher. The beam at this level (and higher) is MUCH more impressive. Four months ago everyone was afraid to go over 100mA. Now they are afraid of going over 120mA. I run them (and sell them) at 180mA all the time. As long as they are heat sinked well AND the user avoids overheating the diode (duty cycle), they are fine. We'll probably burn-out a few more diodes, but IMHO, the beam is worth it.

That brings up the other end of the spectrum for me. As more people build at these levels (and begin to sell them), my market is diluted. Selling a bu-ray is tough enough right now. Oh Well . . .I didn't get into this to make money, did I ;)

Good Luck with your sale.

Peace,
dave

Re: fs: > mxdl 180ma bluray

Before anybody decides to buy this laser, be advised that you are dealing with a 14 year old kid, who not only backed out of a deal with me not once, but twice in less than 2 months time. Just today he lied to me & told me that the laser in the picture had NO LENS, does it look like it has NO LENS to you ? He has dragged this deal out with a myriad of excuses much like a certain other individual on this Forum, I don't need to mention names, some of us like the color BLUE, if you catch my drift. When I 1st received this laser from jake, the battery cage had only 2 batteries in it, the + battery contact inside the barrel was just floating around in there, & the battery cage itself was all messed up, & here's the corker, the damn laser didn't even work  Since I sent it back to him, it's been one excuse after another, & even when I caught him in a bald-faced lie, he responded with his trademark, lol response, & had the gall to suggest that "was I getting pissed at him" & was I gonna write bad stuff about him on the Forum. If he was innocent of the things that I'm accusing him of, he shouldn't have to worry about what I write on the Forum, correct ? He has another laser for sale also that he marked 'sold' but jake told me that the buyer might change his mind. If he reads this he should change his mind, & buy from a REPUTABLE seller. Money for me is very tight & I only have a small amount with which to purchase laser stuff with. Jake has changed his mind & i've had to send things back & forth so many times, that I've easily spent over $10.00 in S/H costs alone. Not only that, I sent him a perfectly good 803T diode to use in the laser he was/wasn't was/wasn't was/wasn't gonna build for me. GOD only knows if I'll see that again, 'cause it's probably in the laser he's selling. Well, end of rant, I just wanted to let all out there that are thinking of doing ANY kind of business with Jake-21 should do so with a BUYER BEWARE OUTLOOK! phoenix77/rob

So, in your opinion, would the admonition, "Use a Middle Man" continue to be a valid warning? ;)

Absolutely. I have done it for others. Most of the time everything ends up just fine. All the participants pay extra is one extra shipping charge to get the laser to me. There are other members who can and will serve as middle men as well. If one of them is closer to either the seller or the buyer, it is a bit less expensive, but you are usually only talking a couple of dollars anyway.

Re: fs: > mxdl 180ma bluray

FYI: Jake is a trustworthy guy and makes some awesome lasers. he builds like 3 a week and is getting crazy good at making them. craftsmanship comes with experience and Jake has tons of it.

also he isn't 14.. he's my age :)

$190 shipped is a great deal on this IMHO, the parts alone are worth a lot and the time it takes to build one of these is worth even more.. not to mention the expertise required.

also, if you really need a middle man, I wouldn't mind doing it at no charge... I'm located in Texas.. and have a LPM-1 meter (which is a decent meter; good for getting an idea of what the actual power is).

good luck on the sale Jake.

take it easy guys,
Kendall
