Re: FS: LM1117 Based Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

Ok thanks! And where do you order these from and what program do you use to design them?

I use EaglePCB for the design. For PCB fab I use the DorkbotPDX group buy, the link is in my sig.

Re: FS: LM1117 Based Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

Hey jib!
Sorry for the threadjack, consider it a bump.:D

Awful quick question:
Is the AMS1117 the same IC?
It says "direct replacement for LM1117", but you know, thought I'd ask to be sure
before ordering some of these:
10pcs AMS1117 LM1117 5V 1A Voltage Regulator SOT-223 - eBay (item 260700740204 end time Feb-27-11 18:05:42 PST)
10pcs AMS1117 LM1117 1117 5.0V 1A Voltage Regulator - eBay (item 250638900948 end time Mar-21-11 01:49:59 PDT)
I really like your tiny, handsome driver but I like DIY even more! :D:D
Thanks.

Hey jib, Quick question! If i were to use 2 3.7v cr123a batteries then once the power got too low would it slowly start to die or shut off like a flex drive?

@bhwollen
uuuh.. funny avatar guy.. 3.7 batts goes up as 4.2 and low as 3.2 so
6.4 minimum, 7.4 nominal, and 8.4 full
so.. depends on the diode you're using but surely the diode would 'slowly' lose power if you're using a 445 diode

Thanks! I don't quite get how this works yet. And im waiting on 6 of em' in the mail. :eg:
Oh and how do batteries go "as low as" I thought they just slowly died till they were out of power.

just don't put 10v on they or you will have to deal with a little fire inside your laser :eg:

Hey jib!
Is the AMS1117 the same IC?
Thanks for the kind words
It is not the same ... the one in the link is a fixed voltage version in a SOT package and will not work for current regulation. I use ON Semi NCP1117DTA(DPAK package), those SOT packages can not handle the same power/current the DPAK's can.

You should start seeing the power decrease when the cells get below 3V. At 2.75V they should no longer have enough overhead voltage for the regulator to operate and thus it shuts down.

Re: FS: LM1117 Based Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

Ok Jib, here is what the 2nd driver I got from you turned into, and now I need more, when's the next batch going to be ready? Can you mark me down for 4? These little guys are awesome and very flexible. I built my first 445 and with 2 RCR123's I got about 1.54A out at full charge. I used a guidesman host which I bought quite some time ago and found that the heatsink from the Hotlight kit fit into it allowing me to use the 2 CR123's so I could get the full use of your driver this time. Attached are some pics, no smoke or fog just natural laser light. Now all I need is an LPM to see what these things are actually doing. Hopefully the Alpha Radiant restocks sometime soon.
