Thank you for all of your inquiries.  This laser is now sold

The gas laser shelf is getting too full.  I decided to let someone else enjoy this one.  This one is a JDS Uniphase 2214-20SL.  It is a single line (488nm) argon laser.  It comes with a power supply.  I have both a 115V and a 220V power supply.  You can choose which you would like.  The unit puts out 2mW at idle (4A) and up to 35mW at full power (10.5A).  It is designed to run almost constantly at 20mW (around 8A).  You will need to set up a fan system to cool it and either jumper a couple of pins for it to run or pick up a remote interface.   Several of the members here can help with getting the pins jumpered.  I have seen several of the remote interfaces available on eBay.  There may be a different source for the control board for the interface, but I haven't tried one of them yet.  I offer the laser and PSU here for $200 PLUS shipping.  I cannot include the shipping at this price.  The unit is heavy.   The PSU weighs 25 pounds and the laser weighs 8 pounds.  That total of 33pounds is BEFORE packaging.  I will ship the most economical way the buyer wants.

I'm working on one of my Cyonics right now. I just got the jumpers right :) I just came in to get my LPM. If I don't get it set up for another pic tonight, I'll get it by tomorrow night.

Peace,
dave

Here ya go.  This is so you can see the environment.  The laser is shining past me onto a mirror.  The dot on the wall is from the laser.

This is with flash.  There is incense in the garage, but you can see here there is not much.

OOooooo.. so pretty.. saddy... blue's are too expensive because the lack of demand on them..... :'(

They should make True BLUE-Ray drives or blue'er drives... lol .. then I'll pop the cash for the diodes... but that'll prob be in a few years before the price drops............. i hope

but this is still cheap, but not worth carrying a carbattery backpack to have a portable pointer LOL (reminds me of GhostBusters)

Who can know such things? (points for source)

If I get the Cyonics unit working correctly, I will at least sell it. However, I do not anticipate that taking me a couple of months.

Want so bad....

How much would it cost to ship to Canada (Cheapest option available) with insurance?

You didn't say where in Canada, so I calculated to Quebec (because I had the postal code for there). It looks like the cheapest way will be via UPS at about $50. I am in Southern California (91786) so if you are significantly farther or closer than to Quebec, the price may increase or decrease.

You said you're working on your Cyonics unit and may sell it in the near future.  How do they compare as far as likely specs, likely price-to-be and such?  Just to compare and see if I want to possibly jump on this one or wait and see if the Cyonics becomes available.

ETA: Or, I'll give you exactly what you have in your 40ML from the genetics lab ;) ;D (yeah right ::))

The Cyonics I'm working on should go to about 30mW (probably a bit more with good current regulation).  The beam specs are very similar.  The Cyonics is a "box-type" housing as opposed to this "cylinder-type" housing so the Cyonics would take up a bit more room.  Price would be the same.  However, you should have read in GooeyGus' "single line" thread, that the PSU still has an issue.  I'm still working on it.  I'm going to try a different set up of jumpers that GooeyGus has suggested either tonight or tomorrow.

Plus I only have a 110V PSU for the Cyonics.  You have your choice 110V or 220V with this unit.

Re: FS:  JDS Uniphase Argon (488nm)

I've had a couple of inquiries about how to "hack" the remote interface. As I said, I have a remote interface so didn't search it before. However, in response to these questions, I did. Jumping the PSU to run the laser is a snap. I have the unit running in the garage right now with this simple jumper set. I will send the unit with the jumpers in place. All you will need then, to get the laser lit is to set up a fan and plug it in. It will run at "idle" (low power) until you can either buy or build a remote interface. I have also printed out the instructions on how to build one and will include them with the laser.

That should get you argon goodness within minutes (if you get the fan and dryer vent hose while the laser is in transit.

In addition, http://www.lasersurplus.com/index.php?submenu=Power&src=gendocs&link=PowerSupplies_Gas&category=Main has the board for the remote interface available so you just have to put it in a box ;)

Peace,
dave
