Default FS: "Hot Fusion Skyray" - 635nm 425mW Build

FS: "Hot Fusion SkyRay" - 635nm 425mW Build

This was another build where I ventured into the territory of slightly pricier hosts. Like the Xenos, this SkyRay host really impressed me when it arrived. The quality of the machining is phenominal, and the threading is just perfect. Everything fits together smoothly, and it feels really well crafted. I love it when hosts forgo the typical rubber tailcap, and stick with all-metal. I also love the fact that this host (for obvious reasons) will not roll

It uses the newest version of my IRON 4D custom driver, and is powered by a single 14500 cell. Both protected and unprotected cells will fit this build. As always, I recommend purchasing IMR cells, but in this build, I think you'd be just fine with typical TrustFires (etc). The build also features a custom focus adapter, and uses a RED-coated glass 3-element lens.

It LPM's at 425mW on my LaserBee, and displays a peak on my Ophir sensor during the first ~15 seconds of its duty cycle that is in the 500 to 550mW range.

Price is: $265 + shipping. I only ship via fully tracked and insured methods. Please PM me for a shipping quote.

You MUST own laser protection goggles appropriate for this wavelength, and
You MUST be over 20 years of age, and
You MUST be familiar and experienced with the appropriate safety precautions to take with lasers of this power.
You MUST NOT be a resident of Canada

This is not a laser pointing device. At all times, protective laser safety glasses appropriate for this wavelength must be worn by the operator. This laser should not be used around 3rd parties (non-operators) pets, or for any recreational purpose.

This laser is meant to be used as a portable laser light source for rough calibration of systems that require a high amount of laser light as an input. This laser's purpose is to serve as a reference for high powered laser light approaching, but not to exceed a maximum of 2W.

Very classy! Where do you find such hosts? I have a neat one coming in soon (hopefully will be able to get a build thread up... once I decide what kind of build I want!), but I am always looking for more sources of neato hosts!

Beautiful build, RHD!

Nice updated disclaimer btw, is that prompted by changes in Health Canada? I ask because I'm having a hard time finding current laser laws for canada. I was asked nearly two months ago to give a presentation "across the river" (in Canadian Sault Ste Marie) to the local radio clubs on April 5th on my laser communication systems, and it is looking more and more like I'll have a hard time at customs trying to bring laser equipment across.

Us junior members have joined the forum because of a mutual interest of lasers. We don't have the knowledge you apparently do. We don't need to be have a sarcastic answer to our questions. Go find that cave!

I haven'd seen the non burning specs. you referrred to . Maybe you can explain why some rated 400mw lasers will burn and others won't. I've asked this before and didn't get an answer. Also why are burning lasers Taboo on this site? Please keep in mind,I'm a Newbe

He is not saying that this won't burn. It will certainly burn your retinas though. But this laser is not designed to burn. That is not the reason he built it for.

Burning lasers are are taboo here because it seems that people who enjoy burning things TYPICALLY are irresponsible with their laser use. Now, there is nothing wrong with burning occasionally... I do it to impress friends on occasion (of course with appropriate goggles). However, while this laser may or may not be capable of burning, you shouldn't use it for that.

There are so many resources on this forum that you really don't need to be asking questions that could easily be answered using the search bar.

If you can't take the time to research what is frankly a really powerful laser, before thinking about purchasing it, then you're not the kind of person that should (IMO) be thinking about purchasing a really powerful laser.

You said:
"I've asked this before and didn't get an answer."

Maybe the reason you didn't get an answer before, is the same reason you're not getting an answer now. Nobody is interested in spoon feeding you a recipe for doing something dangerous. Walk into a car shop and say "can this car drive 50 mph, backwards, down a mountain, during a snowstorm?" and see what kind of reaction you get.
