I recently picked up a salvage lot of HeNe lasers. I went through them trashing the dead ones, repairing those that could be repaired, and pulling the working tubes from irreparable housings. These have all been tested and run with a 1750VDC PSU. They are all in the 1-3mW range. These will each fit into a medium flat rate priority box.

The tubes inside look like the long, thin, bare tube in the picture. When contacting me, please mention if you want a bare tube unit or one in a housing.

They are offered here at $20 each, shipped in the US.

These are offered without PSU's. You can get 1750VDC PSU's on eBay regularly. I have a limited number of "lab-style" PSU's available at $75 each.

In housings: 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Bare tubes: 4, 3, 2, 1

Peace,
dave

I'm interested in the bare tubes, but first I need to know how long they are. My project box can fit a 7-inch tube from end to end. Do you have any that fit that size?
Thanks,

I'm interested. Are they all the same Wavelength?

Edit: I want one in the housing. The second one from the right looks cool :)

The shortest one is 6 inches long. The others are over 8 inches

Yes. These are all 632nm (red)
The one farthest to the right has a longer housing, but the tube is the same. The rest of them are all the same model. A couple of them have shorter cords, though

I have 5 empty housings:
one @ 10in (L) x 1.75in (dia)
three @ 9.25in (L) x 1.25in (dia)
one @ 6.75in (L) x 1.25in (dia)

They do NOT all have all the end caps. If any of these will work for you, I'll match up what I have in the parts bag, but you may have to fabricate one or both end caps.

I like the shape of the top 2 bare tubes kinda neet looking... Too bad they have too much metal obstructing the plasma. I like to see as much plasma as possible :D

Search "HeNe" in eBay and be patient. You will eventually get a PSU for under $50.

Those two are wired to the terminals sticking out the "rear."

If you want big exposure, I have some 14in bare tubes, with ~10in of plasma exposure for $40 plus shipping

I also still have a bare tube, green for $160

Id like to have that green tube but unfortunately I have some tickets to pay for and that drained my paypal savings :( As soon as I have some more funds I might PM you about that 14" red. What is the wattage on it again?

Also, can you give me a round about estimate for parts cost on that HeNe lamp you built minus laser and psu? I really would like to have a HeNe lamp for my computer room :D

Do those 14" have more powerful output?

The way I understand it and have observed is... Generally the longer the more power output but I am just ASSuming. Keep in mind the longer the more juice it needs.

Dave correct me if i am wrong :tinfoil:

The output on the 14in red is <13mW (mm).

The lamp that I made was VERY inexpensive.

The base is a simple plastic project box from Radio Shack with some old two-pound fishing weights in it. The tube covering the bottom is just black PVC "drain" pipe. The shield behind the lamp is the "back" 1/2 of the original housing. I split the housing with a cutting wheel on a Dremel. I glued it all together and spray painted it with "high-temp" flat black paint.

The wire to the Alden plug and PSU exits the rear of the box. The PSU sits under the desk.

Others have done them "prettier", but I doubt they have done them cheaper ;)
