Hi guys.

Here I have some stuff for sale. Details below.

4-1000A Vacuum tube - asking 100$ OBO

Last year I did a trade with another member for a bunch of VTTC stuff. Unfortunately I don't know anything about making Tesla coils. I recently offered to pay anyone to build me one with my stuff with no luck. So I decided I'm going to give up on a super awesome VTTC.

I have a 4-1000A Vac tube. Tube is in EXCELLENT condition. I've certainly never used it.

If you are into Vacuum tubes you should know what this is.

I'm asking 110$ shipped OBO. I accept trades as well.

Thanks!
Jeff

Heh. They seem to getting more attention than my actual sale item! Maybe I should look into selling those too?

Edit:

Fun fact: 4-1000A vacuum tubes contain a small amount of Thorium.

Nice looking tube although some discoloration on a couple fins in picture #3.

Has it been tested and checked? Is it used or unused?

Have you tried putting it on a shortwave enthusiast site or eBay being it is a shortwave transmitter tube? There are guys out there that still build and use them.

Re: Sell/Trade 1KW Vac Tube.

I assume the discoloration you see on the fins is the yellow lines. If so those are not actually on the tube
Its a camera artifact.

I'm not sure its been tested or checked but I would be willing to guarantee it works or the buyers money back. I don't know anything much about the tube itself besides the information passed to me. I could maybe test it to the buyers instruction.

As I said in the OP. I got it with the intention of making a VTTC. I just don't know much about building one. I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to find a short wave enthusiast forum. Rather not deal with eBay XD

I really appreciate the help encap. I really have no idea where I could sell this besides here haha.

Re: Sell/Trade 1KW Vac Tube.

Oh OK just artifacts not discolored squiggles on two of the fins.

To use/ to be a functioning tube, you need a special socket for it that houses a fan and the glass chimney that goes over it that directs the air cooling it--not so easy to find.

Is a pretty specialized thing for it to be used for other than just as a very cool looking big tube on display, which it is.

Probably eBay is best bet.

In any case good luck with it.

Re: Sell/Trade 1KW Vac Tube.

I've lowered the price for this ALOT. Apparently you can get these on eBay for about 100$. Mine looks better than most on ebay. Hopefully price is good now.

Re: Sell/Trade 1KW Vac Tube.

You can tell that the tube has been used a bit by the color of the glass. Most types of vacuum tubes produce x-rays by way of bremsstrahlung (braking) radiation. When some of the accelerated electrons flowing through the tube get scattered and strike the glass envelope and/or other parts of the tube, they lose their energy via interaction with the atoms in whatever material they encounter (they slow down) and in the process an x-ray photon is released. Over time, this x-ray radiation causes silicate glass to turn brownish. The same thing happens with medical x-ray tubes.

Re: Sell/Trade 1KW Vac Tube.

If you want to help your sale of the tube you could do a continuity check on the heater element and assure prospective buyers that is is intact.

And yes I can tell it's a used tube by the look of it, brown glass, but it dose look very good.

So did I see the supper caps are 3000 farad @ 2.75 volts ?

are they for sale and if so how much ?
