This is an rhd creation that I purchased from another member on the forum. The laser began to flicker occasionally and then stopped working all together.
This was many months ago and I just now stumbled back onto it today. I am
not sure what caused the problem, but the laser is dead, i.e. it is not an issue
with the tail-cap because bypassing the tail-cap with a wire does not
remedy the issue. The laser died shortly after I began using a different battery
in it, and I'm guessing that is what caused it's death.

I do not blame rhd for this, as we all know he produces top notch lasers.

The host is really cool and still in mint condition, and It would be nice to see the android finger live again.

Entertaining all offers.

Some vital information missing from your post.

Wavelength?
Diode?
Shipping cost/method?
Also a ballpark starting figure would be good.

Flickering is a driver overheating issue, you can replace the driver and it will be just fine afaik.. I had a same problem with my 445nm i thought it died, i extracted the diode to decan it, but then i gave it some current and diode was fine, the only problem was that the smd resistors on the driver were overheated several times at this point they were toast.. I just replaced it with a $2 driver and it was working again..

Have you tried to run it from a PSU? are they the same batt. you've used since you recieved the unit?

Are you somewhat sleep deprived and passed out in the middle of your post? This happens I'm just askin cause your info is somewhat unforthcomming;)

maybe he is not willing to open it up himself.. you should send it back to rhd and ask him a quote for repair.. if its insane, then just sell the host/heatsink/lens price..

It was 638nm laser?

I think driver killed and if you were lucky the diode may be alive.

RHD can fix it (with extra cost) if he wants.

Have you used that cell in any other laser ?

Can you check the voltage of the cell ?

If that cell is weak and has low voltage then the driver could be drawing more current than it should
which means it's getting hot faster, when it gets hot the self protection kicks in and causes it to blink.

I would order a new cell and try that before you do any thing else !

just my .02 :)

Yea man keep that host just upgrade it maybe a 500mW 635nm MIT. Looks a little like how I'd imagine a young padwin saber would look like.

Putting a 500mW in it would be kind of a waste, it's perfect for the 300mW though, a 12x, or even a low power a140.

I really like the host... so here's my final offer $40 shipped. If the diode turns out to be ok, I'll send over another $20. I don't have the means to test it myself, so I'll have you send it to a very reputable builder to test, he'll be able to say if it's good or not.

If your worried about heat issues with this remember that you do not have to run said diode at full powa. A 750mW setting for a 635nm diode in this particular unit would be a nice build, NOT a waste. Remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I need not go into different driver combos:na: point is a 300mW MIT. driven it's nutz off or a conservatively set 500mW would IMHO look schweet in this particular host. Either way I guess I was taken back on your it's a "waste" statement. I have never considered any functioning build (all DIY are custom BTW) to be a waste regardless of diode preference:undecided:

What kind of host in your opinion would be not a waist for the 500mW MIT?
