Default FS:  Dorcy 19 LED Flashlights

I bought a small wholesale lot of these flashlights because I thought that they might make some cool "matched sets." I tore one up tonight. I am NOT going to use them to build lasers. I don't like how little the heat sink will end up being. They will be fine for 110-120mW blu-rays, but you know I don't build 120mW blu-rays

They are fine. They are new. I'm just not going to use them

Anyway, since I'm not going to use them, I thought I would offer them to y'all for cost + shipping. They are Dorcy model 41-4247. They have 19 LED's. They come with three AAA batteries. I have two red, two blue, and one silver. They are offered here for $9 each, shipped in the US

This will be the only bump.

If no one wants them, they will go into the box of "Christmas gifts" for people I work with

Peace,

How hard would these be to use as a host?

They could VERY easily be used to make a laser. That's why I bought them to begin with. I just don't like the size that the heat sink will end up as. They can still have a good heat sink, but I require a massive heat sink for my builds.

I drive these diodes at much higher currents than many on the list do. They can take it, but they require good heat sinking (and paying attention to the length of the burn). If I was making these for my personal use, I would no have a problem using them. However, when making something for sale, I tend to "overbuild". People on the list are making higher powered lasers with the amount of heat sinking these will get. I just want more for something I have to warranty. I have never had a laser I've sold returned. I'm sure it will happen eventually (probably soon now that I've said that), but I'd like to keep that record intact.

If I was making them at currents below 130mW, I would have no problem using them. They will still have a good heat sink, just not up to my resell requirements.

I also bought them because of the colors. I thought it would be really cool to have a "set" of lasers with the red laser in a red host and the blu-ray laser in a blue host. The lonely silver host was also going to be part of a set, but its "partner" was the one I tore up to make the decision about using them or not. It's body has already been recycled. I like the side clicky and the ease of wiring that it presents.

You could use either the drlava driver or a Rkcstr driver (laid down). If you use the drlava drive, they could be powered with three AAA batteries. If you use the Rkcstr, you should limit it to two 10440's unless you are going to "jump" the MOSFET. If you do that, you could still use three 10440's.

All-in-all, they could be used to make cool lasers (especially if you make a "set" of them) I just won't use them to make something to sell.

They're also pretty cool little flashlights and you're getting them for cost without having to buy 6 of them at a time :P

Peace,
dave
