Moved to new thread.

Edit: Added some things to it. The photos are outdated now....refer to the video.

Alright so I am "almost" done with this.
I've still got to mount the switch, that's about it, so I'm going to put this up for sale now.

This is the first host I have ever made.
Took me 2 days, and I bled 3 times!

It has a rubber O-ring grip (Thanks to Brewcitymusic for this awesome idea)
Takes 2xCR2 modules.
And fits an entire Aixiz module.
The module is held in place with a set screw which is hidden right above the head's threads.

The laser disassembles into three pieces. The head with the aixiz module, The tail cap with the switch, and the body with the o-ring grip.

The front of the host is recessed so the lens sit tucked in.

I'm going to start this at $50 and see what happens.
I'll include two rechargeable CR2 batteries with the host.

the switch can be replaced with an all black switch if preferred. Which i will need to order if that's the case.

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

Made on your new lathe Mo? Very nice, you learn quickly! A natural to be sure!

I'm sure this'll go very quickly.

I'm assuming this is an empty host; no lasers, no drivers, no batteries and definitely no lasers? I did assume right that it has no lasers in it right?

Good luck.

Did I ask if it had any lasers in it at all?

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

lol. yeah it's an empty host. all you get is a set of batteries. the module in the picture was just for show....it's empty, for measurement purposes

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

That is one excellent piece of work for a minilathe!

We need more dedicated laser hosts around here to choose from, keep up the awesome work! PM me if you want and I'll give you whatever tips I can on a direct press host.

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

That's a very nice looking host and your first at that.;) I can't wait to see how your designs progress. I definitely like the rubber O-ring's. Allows you to have a good no slip grip but also keeps the nice polished look.

Are you going to be making some focus adapters?

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

;) Just thought I'd check Mo. I wouldn't want you getting into trouble now! :D

DTR, as I'm sure you will agree, I think a focus ring will be child's play for a talented fellow like this but a welcome addition to this host. Maybe a tiny O-ring on it would be cool for continuity?

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

Yeah i p;anned on adding a focus ring to this, just something that the lens nut will press fit into.

As for direct press diodes, I will switch to them if i ever get a 9x0.5 tap for the aixiz threads.

Continuity and functionality. The rubber would allow for better traction when trying to focus the adapter with one finger.

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

I'll add it to the "to-do" list tomorrow.
I don't think i'll lower the price any...i'm kind of wanting to keep this.
I have never played with a 445, and i would love to own one in this host.

I just need to find a faster way of working.
I know i had to make the tail cap twice, so hopefully the reproductions are a lot quicker since i actually know what i'm making.....everything on this host was thought of at the last minute. like the recessed head (and tail if the switch wasn't so big), the o-rings i thought of about 10 minutes before the hardware store closed so i had to race up there.
Brewcitymusic initially suggested it a long time back when i had some custom hosts made that were complete shit. Wish he were around so he could see it.

tomorrow i am going to make the focus adapter, and i've also got a small metal switch with a tiny black button i might see if i can mount in it.
it would match great and it would also be completely recessed.

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

You don't need to drop the price of this at all in my opinion. That would be selling yourself short by a long way. I'm surprised your initial price was so low in the first place to be honest!

Nice styling; nice host period.

I look forward to seeing a beam shot from this thing!

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

I'm trying to find some aluminum pipe thats already cut 1" OD with an 11/16 ID. This would save a LOT of time.

with my 10" lathe it's very hard to drill these things out. I have to remove the tail stock every time i want to clear the drill bit of debris.

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

Simple, yet elegant! A couple of questions.

1. How does the Aixiz module wire to the host? Is there a easy way to simply solder the Aixiz +/- to some kind of blank board, or is it wired in a more complex way?

2. Is the tailcap switch reverse or forward clicky?

3. Is the tailcap switch recessed like the front of the Aixiz module, or does it protrude out the back making for easier turning off and on? And how big is the clicky button?

Gives her that O-face:eg:

Hey Mohrenberg
You making sex toys or lasers here. You could definitely be a supplier for DX since they sell both. Nothing like a dildo that can pop balloons at 10 feet. All you need is to add a small vibrating motor and you will be set.

Re: FS: Custom Machines Host!!!

Very nice host and very reasonable price for a start, considering this is your first creation!
