2. Is the tailcap switch reverse or forward clicky?

3. Is the tailcap switch recessed like the front of the Aixiz module, or does it protrude out the back making for easier turning off and on? And how big is the clicky button?

1. You would just make the module case-negative, and add a contact point on the end of your aixiz module for the + side of the battery to hit.

2. I'm not sure if this is a reverse clicky or not. Which doesn't matter yet as i plan to replace this switch with a different one.

3. The host is made to have a recessed switch in the tail. The switches i bought are so damn big they stick out THAT far, Which is why i'm going to replace them with different once. Once replaced, it will be recessed inside the host....and look a LOT better.

Thanks for the reply!

Although IMO a clicky switch that isn't recessed would make the laser so much easier to handle and use. I have a few flashlights/lasers that have the switch recessed, and it just isn't very fun/convenient to use them since the switch is kind of a pain to get to. Then I have other flashlights/lasers that the switch is easily accessible and they are such a pleasure to use.

Same goes for the recessed focus knob as well. When I use my lasers I like to have easy access to that focus ring to make any adjustments I need to. If it's recessed, it would be kind of a pain and inconvenient. Although the good thing about it being recessed is that it will be less likely to get out of focus from bumping the laser or putting it in your pocket etc.

But these are just my preferences. For me, looks take a back seat to functionality. I don't build a laser to look at the host, I build one so I can use and have fun with it. But the coup de gras is when you have looks and functionality!

Well i did some work on it today...i'm happier with it's look now.

First off, i machined a focus knob for it, the knob is about 1/4" thick with an O-ring in the middle of it for grip.

I tried to put that other switch in it, but ended up destroying it when i tried to get it out of it's little metal casing.

SO, i put this other white one (shown in pictures) on the lathe and turned it down haha.
It still stick out just a tiny bit, but it looks a ton better IMO.

I also sanded and polished the entire thing again. It still has a couple of small scratches on it though.

It's amazing how easy aluminum will scratch or dent. I'm going to make a video here in a minute of the host. Should be posted in about an hour....

Looking pretty sweet there Mohrenberg

How is the focus action with the rubber ring? I think that is a great addition to a focus adapter that I have not seen yet.

Maybe this is a help....either way, nice work again!
I checked them, it's a no-go. i need 1"od aluminum, with 11/16 inside diameter. so that leaves 5/16 or .3125" wall thickness....none of these places come anywhere near that thick.

Even if i could go close it would make it a lot easier. it's not easy drilling out 3 inches of aluminum, and having to remove the tail stock of the lathe to clear debris from the bit like every 1/16" get time consuming.

and the lack of a band saw makes this a tiring process of cutting pieces to size. I need more power tools very badly.

Thats probably what i'll use this for.

Bumped it to $45.

I'm going to make some lab sinks with this o-ring style and hopefully raise some funds for a cheap band saw....have to keep an eye on craigs list for one.

Very nice! I dig the host a lot. I will definitely be interested in one of yours in a month or so.
Be careful if you get the harbor freight bandsaw, they are very hard to get to cut perfectly straight
Horizontal/Vertical Metal Cutting Bandsaw
Thats the one i have, and it works really well, but its just not the straightest.
Maybe get one of these too to "even things out" after you make a cut

I'm not worried about it cutting straight, as long as it will do the cutting for me. I ca also face it off to make it straight once i got it on the lathe.

I'm prob gonna convert these hosts to 2xCR123 / 1x 18650

I'm suppose to be doing some machine work in exchange for a 445 diode and an aixiz 445 lens...so if this doesn't sell soon it will be my personal 445nm 1W Laser
