Oh neat idea - that would work.

I don't have a laser that stable, but it's a great idea.

Was any fog used to enhance the beam in that pic?
Or just the angle the pic is taken?

Definitely fog. A yellow in that power range isn't that visible without some fog, dust, or particulate matter in the air. It's certainly not visible enough that I could photograph it on a 1/60 exposure while the heavy DSLR was hand held.

Without fog, you can sometimes see the beam in the right lighting situation, with the right environment. But there was definitely fog used in that shot.

Regarding if the laser was bought from us or bought from CNI: If you PM me the serial number (should be written on the inside of the aperture cap or tailcap), I can check to see if it came from us. This will only work provided we sold it AFTER November 2009, though.

Thanks! PM'd

Regarding the beam, here it is on video. There's no fog in the air, although we did just make breakfast (eggs on a frying pan) about 15 minutes earlier.

The video is just cell-phone auto exposure etc. It's about noon here, and there's ambient light coming in from outside, and the light from a television projector (a traditional one - with a halogen bulb), in the room.

You can see the beam at angles up to about 45 degrees, but much better when more straight on.

593.5 - YouTube

I mean, this is not a powerhouse. But it's compact, reliable, runs on AAAs, and is a decent (I think) price. It's a few years old, and if you look real close you can see some scuffing on the brass. The lacquer black is in great condition. I'm open to offers - if reasonable.

The serial isn't in our system (nor are any serials that seem close - they can be hard to read sometimes), so it's either from before November 2009 or it didn't come from us. Sorry I can't provide more info.

Thanks for checking into that!

I just looked back - and for some reason I thought I had paid $250, but I didn't. I paid $200. I wasn't looking to make above what I paid for it, so I've changed the price to $200 + shipping.

It has seen a minute or two of use in the month I've had it after it's previous owner.

With the risk of sounding like a total noob, i'm curious as to what brightness level you'd compare the beam to? (i haven't seen a 594/589 in the flesh)
Again sorry for the noob questions, feel free to pm me if you don't want this thread cluttered.

No it's cool -

Because of the beam specs (DPSS, tight thin beam), it's hard to really compare it to anything common apart from 532.

There has been so much debate about "relative brightness" recently, that I'll avoid jumping into anything too definitive. But in a very basic sense, 532 is ~24 nm from our eye's peak sensitivity, and 594 is ~ 38nm from it (on the other side).

So in a very rough, basic sense, I'd say 594 is probably "a bit less bright per mW than 532".

I think a better way to convey the brightness is just to describe this pointer subjectively.
- In a brightly lit room, you won't see the beam (at any angle)
- In a dimly lit room, you'll be able to see it when on axiz
- In a dark room, you'll be able to see it when view from the side, if you're paying attention and looking for it, but it won't look like a "blade slicing through the air"

- And finally, if there is any particulate matter in the air (dust, hair spray, steam, fog, cooking oils, etc) then you'll enhance all of the above.

You'd be fine, like eytyxhs said, if you're doing 1min from a cold start.

But if you did:

1 min on / 15 seconds off
1 min on / 15 seconds off
1 min on / 15 seconds off
etc

...then you'd probably run into trouble.

Default Re: FS: CNI GLP 593.5nm (594) pointer, rated for 3-5mW.

Seriouslu guys, get this laser, turn the shower on / smoke a cig in your house for some smoke/steam then use this laser. presto- you now have a 50mW (looking) 593.5

3-5 mW is plenty for a nice beam if you are creative

Edit: also, rhd- in the instruxtions of my rigel 2, it had wavelengths listed and said residual IR= less than 1% of the lasers output

That was with my laserglow rigel, but im sure yours should be the same.
