Just to make it a little worse I built my 660mW 405 today with a 12X diode that I harvested from a Lite On sled from Rayfoss for $69 shipped. Sorry Diesel.

I don't understand how that's worse, but I'd much rather make lasers out of the 10x sheds then sell them. So this is great news for me. I just thought someone might want a 10x and didn't want to spend the retail price. As for your 12x lite on diode, I have 2 of these, what current are you running it @ to produce 660mW? thanks

I am not sure and don't ask. I'll just say I got lucky.
I do however have another sled on the way and plan to try it at 600mA and see if I can get it closer to 1W. Jay has a BDR-205 diode with the driver set to 605mA that is putting out 885mW. But that current has not been tried on these diodes yet.
