I see, so not just a larger bore module.
It makes perfect sense to keep the host then. :)

Nope, this one was over an inch thick. It's not with me now, but I took it apart before I left home.

The on/off switch broke in the process. It's a tough host to disassemble - although logical, and machined well, with no less than 8 screws holding it together.

It's actually kind of nice to be able to take this apart without getting anywhere close to the self-contained optics assembly.

Having said that, I've had to install a new button to replace the switch. If it works, this is a semi-positive (although unplanned) development for me anyway. I like momentary clickies. I don't like on/offs.

The other cool reality of this host/laser, is that I'm not terribly worried about working with the driver board, because if I toast it in the process (not that I expect to), I won't be feeling like I've destroyed a good laser. In reality, it would be really simple to DIY a new driver if I had to. Extra work, but simple once I get the time.

At any rate though, hopefully the repair will be simple - new spring, replace the clicky - that's it.

The repair took me 45 minutes this morning, and hopefully there's just another 20 minutes when I get home this afternoon ;)

Darn - I took pictures along the way, but wiped my phone a few hours ago, and forgot to back them up.

But - a quick google search, and I found a photo already out there. Here's exactly what the module looked like:
500mW 532nm Single Dot Green Laser Module (2.9-4.2V)

The thickest metal in the middle is where the two halves of this unit attach (on one side, the diode and optics stuff, on the other, the driver). Weirdly sandwiched in the joint itself, is a heatsinked compartment for the IC - completely separate from the actual driver board. All by itself - the IC just sits there connected to wires - not on a PCB.

What I've figured out:

- I'm pretty sure it was running the IR diode at 1.2A
- With 2x 16340 cells (instead of the 1x18650) it runs the diode at ~2A. In fact, it's quite happy to run it at this higher current for a reasonable duty cycle. Much brighter green.
- This probably also means you could just pot mod one of these to give higher output from an 18650.

Bottom line:
- This thing has no trouble hitting the spec of 300mW 532nm.
- At higher currents, it will peak above 425mW.
- Adding a momentary clicky instead of the on/off, was an awesome upgrade ;)

Notwithstanding the fact that it broke, it was just a spring that broke off - and that may actually have had to do more with my use of a protected 18650 (too much tension)

One way or another, this was a stupidly amazing deal for $125. It's a very consistent, very powerful laser, that doesn't seem to have any IR to speak of. It actually stings my skin - which is not something I've ever experienced with a 532nm. The beam is fairly visible even in a day-light illuminated apartment at 12-noon.

The price is $401.98 now.
A bit much considering Odicforce have the same module in 250mW for £130.
He is apparently selling the low output end of the range, but there is a difference in output guarantee and return policy.

No... It's $200.91

The "regular price" they list is junk/garbage/fake. Their "price" is whatever is in red that they'll actually sell something to you for.

That said - I seriously only paid $126 for this. I've quadruple checked my paypal records to make sure I wasn't wrong. I paid $126. So - pretty happy.

If I wanted to screw with it, this guy would probably hit 450mW. I say that, because using 2x 16340 cells, it hits 400mW and doesn't get warm after 2 minutes.

However, I'm leaving her "as-is". Not adjusting the pot, not making any modifications (other than the momentary clicky and the battery spring repair).

To have a 350-400mW green laser (no IR) for $126 is more than I ever hoped for. I spend the same money or more on my IQS piece of junk that was replaced with another unit that mode hopped - and ultimately died.

I'm a happy camper.

I am quite envious, and would not try adjust it either. :)

Ahh... those. O-like sold those a while back. I was puzzled as to what they were, but they were outside my price range so i didn't let it bother me.

laser has arrived!! now waiting on LPM to be available to me so i can power test.

a quick test during the day i would hazard a guess of 100+mW but cant be any more accurate than that, and thats a quick 5sec test. will do more comprehensive testing tonight aligned with some other known mW lasers to try make a more accurate guess, but will meter shortly

Actually I ordered three of these from 200mW 532nm DC 3V Open-back Green Laser Pointer for Sale at GadgetTown.com

Aside from the fact that the click button on back is black on mine, same exact thing as what's posted on first page.

The price at the time was $39. One of them crapped out withing minutes, I sent it back and was refunded minus my shipping cost ~$5. One big plus IMO they shipped from a warehouse in Brooklyn, NY, not china, so it was very quick.

The other two had different output, with a non scientific comparison I'd say probably 100mw and 150mw. Beams on all three came out at an angle.

Of the two I kept, one died... the soldering from circuit board to diode broke... I can post pics of what it looks like inside if you'd like.

The second one still works.. and works rather well, but I sometime had to shake it to get it to turn on. One of the three is able to burn/light a red match.

For $30 it's not a bad deal, but completely a gamble with regards to quality. I think with the one that's dead I can probably repair it. I think the diode itself is fine.

Attached are a few pictures of the broken laser taken apart.

If anyone is in NJ/NY area who can LPM please let me know?

Mine wasn't from Dino.. but yeah, bought three. For $30 it's not a bad deal. Read my post above, no way to tell what you're gonna get at all.

Has anyone purchased 1 of these lol

yes ive got mine and without my LPM i would say its up to spec, waiting on my LPM from jerry.

got mine today and its definatly over 100mw(no lpm)lights a match unfocus.i am impressed.

lighting a match doesnt mean 100mW, IR can do this quite easily, apparently they are IR filtered though
