LOL! The original flashlight had a 5W LED in it. The laser is putting out 640mW.

The red modules look just like these blue modules

The difference is that the red modules have an LCC diode and a Rkcstr driver set to 420mA. They are putting out ~240mW with the stock acrylic lens. With the 650-G-1 lens, they put out ~300mW.

Aw, shucks. Unfortunately, I'm totally new to lasers, so I wouldn't have a clue what to do with those red (or the blue) modules. I see a bunch of loose wires, and I see that they need lenses. I'd be totally lost, without any idea how to make them functional lasers.

The 640mW blue looks really nice, though. I'll bookmark this.

Yeah, no clue where to begin. The one guide I have found was deleted because of some drama on the thread.

agravlin, there is a multitude of information on this forum. BTW, welcome to LPF! One suggestion I have is to use the search function to find information, before asking questions. Also, I have to warn you to be careful of the power of this particular true blue diode. It really isn't a great way to start this hobby. There are other red, green and violet diode lasers that are much less of a hazard to your eyesight, not to mention your pets, friends and family. Everyone, in an enclosed room must be wearing laser eye protection, because your spectators are at risk. This 445nm laser will not allow you even a small mistake. It is an extreme eye hazard, especially at the power levels we are discussing here. The only eye-safe viewing is when it is pointed into the sky. But that has it's own disadvantages, with the possibility of aircraft flying nearby. Again, welcome to LPF!

I couldn't sleep, so I whipped out another one

This is my last MXDL/Jayrob host.

This laser has the 445nm diode from an XJ-A140. It has a V5 flexdrive. The driver is set to 500mA. It is putting out 500mW with the 405-G-1 lens It will ship with the acrylic lens to protect the diode, but you will need a 405-G-1 or an AixiZ glass lens for it.

The MXDL uses three primary (standard) AAA batteries. The MXDL has the massive Jayrob heat sink in it.

For this last MXDL/Jayrob host I will stay with the old school price. It will ship in the US for $190.
