For Sale: 900mW-1W, 445nm Chrome Pens

IMG_5262.JPG

Hey everyone. For sale here at a discounted price are Chrome pen builds, lasing at a wavelength of approximately 445nm with output powers between 900mW and 1.2W.

Below are the specs:
- Powered at 1.25A
- Aixiz glass lens
- Momentary-on side button
- Runs off of two IMR10440 batteries (included)
- Case negative
- Duty cycle: 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off

I really like these builds. They're sleek, sexy, and pretty cheap. That's why I am selling these at nearly at-cost prices.

These are awesome! That is a lot of power from a little pen host :eg: At these prices they should go really quick, honestly I don't see how your selling them so cheap, especially with quality batteries!

Yeah :D I love these little pen builds. They're fun, quick, and easy. :)

Nice build Sam! Great price also will sell quick! cheers!!

Re: FS: 445nm, 900mW-1W Chrome Pens - $100 Each

can you show more pics of the host?

Pretty darn good for a pen build.. i mean, it beats WL by a couple hundred milliWatts!! :D
nice work !! :gj:

Almost anything beats WL even if it isn't as powerful...

I will grab more pics of the host if this sale doesn't go through. As it stands right now, someone offered to purchase all three of them so I packaged them up. However, I have yet to receive payment so they haven't been officially sold yet.

Hey everyone. I am ordering parts for five more of these because there was so much interest in them.

Pardon the double post.

Re: FS: 445nm, 900mW-1W Chrome Pens - $100 Each

Great price, but 30 seconds at ~1.25A with practically zero heatsinking is kind of pushing it:undecided:

I would stay on the conservative side and stick to 15-20 seconds on 40 seconds off.

If the duty cycle is not followed closely, these will not last long. For the next set... consider turning them way down. At ~400mA you'll get a bit more time to actually play with the laser.

Also they use an easy to press momentary on side button right? If the button is depressed by accident while the laser is in a pants pocket (as I like to carry mine:p) you can be looking at a hole in your pocket and a dead laser.

Sorry to be so critical, I actually love the way these look, and my first impulse was to send you a PM to grab one.... price is excellent.... but given those two issues, it's not a worthwhile proposition to me. (There is also the fact that I need to seriously clean out my 445nm collection:p)

I may consider it - that may be a good idea, except then you don't get nearly as impressive as a beam to cut through the night sky.

The momentary button is fairly easy to press. It's not always consistent, but I always make sure that it's pretty easy. That said, however, these are unlikely to turn on in your pants pockets just from sitting there. They aren't that easy to press XD

Regarding duty cycle - I think I am learning that these 445nm diodes are a LOT more robust when it comes to lack of heatsinking than I thought. I have run one of these for over 90 seconds before. It definitely got pretty warm, but, while these was a drop in power due to heating, there was permanent degradation.

Anyway, I may raise the price to $105 + shipping depending on how many of these I will be making... originally I just wanted to get rid of these, but if I am purposefully making them, it may be worthwhile to slightly increase the price. How does everyone feel about that?

So the diode did degrade a bit, or did you mean to say that it didn't?

$105 is a reasonable price for the package with batteries.

(~$40 diode, ~$5 host, ~$5 lens, ~$10 driver, ~$10 batteries.)

Re: FS: 445nm, 900mW-1W Chrome Pens - $100 Each

I meant to say that, while it does decrease in power after being on because it warms up (constant current and all that), after I let it cool down, it worked perfectly again at the same recorded max as before.

Anyway, yeah, I think I will increase the price to $105.

That is impossible, WL sells the most powerful laser allowed by law!

;)

Seriously dude, how can you sell these so cheap? The frickin diodes alone cost nearly half that? Great builds.

That sounds great. I know at least 3 people who will buy one. Definitely keep making them please :thanks:
