I think its good to have competition, the consumer wins.. and it shouldn't detract from innovation. After all this is a hobby , correct.

Quick question .. is ANYONE else able to sell the glass mods or would that be uncool?

Larry DFW  must be on the black list im sure..

Competition , is what America is built on.. not monopolization..  agreed ? or just plain greed?

my 2 cents..

****Modification to this post****
to be on a black list was a comparative term that i used to say "he would be looked down upon" by selling the same lens , kit, design as Jayrob..

i should have said " would he be considered uncool"

Got the wrong username too ..

******end modification********

Here's the situation...

I was giving jake21 lots of information of what size drill bits to use and so forth. I was helping him but not so that he could start selling the same items that I am selling!

How is that cool?? Do you think that I am not supposed to be offended by this?

WannaBurn bought his lenses from me.... 'nough said'.

LarryDFW on the other hand, is claiming his lens is giving different power readings. So maybe he has a different coating on the lenses he has. The manufacture does offer different coatings.

He claims that his lens gives more power with red than Meredith Glass. The lens I am selling does not. It is about 5% less with red vs Meredith glass.

Although it should be noted that LarryDFW has stated that he has not tried Meredith glass.

And also, he is claiming that he is mounting the lenses differently.

There is no 'black list'. There is just reputation, and common courtesy. I try my best to treat everybody with respect and I will always help if I know the answer to something, or if I can help in any way.

Note: I would like to share why I chose my mounting method over other methods...

The lens will fit 'sloppy' in the AixiZ glass nut, unless it is drilled to the precise size needed for the lens. If the lens is just sitting in the retaining ring area, the remaining 'smaller diameter' of the lens nut that the top of the lens will sit against. is not fit properly, and could even chip the glass.

Not that it will happen, but it could. I am talking from experience. Yes, I chipped a lens trying it this way. This, among other reasons, is why I chose the modification that I came up with.

Even though it requires:

* Enlarging the aperture with one drill size.
* Drilling out the nut to fit the 405-G-1 glass lens sitting on a tiny 'lip'.
* Making a custom spacer to retain the lens. (my custom spacer/retainer sits on the 'rim' of the lens that is made for mounting it)

And... Not only is the barrel of the AixiZ glass lens nut too small in diameter for this mounting method, but the threaded area is too large in diameter for the O.D. of the lens. This is what I mean by fitting 'sloppy'. I guess if it was glued in place, and perfectly aligned, then it would work out. But not a good way to mount the lens. (IMHO)

On the other hand, my method also leaves room for the 'finger grip' focus ring to be installed 'all the way on', and still allow focus! ;)

Judge for yourself if you think you can trust my word or not...
Jay

P.S. Just some information about Meredith... There are two different glass lenses available now. I have tried both of them. I use the best one for red with my Meredith glass fit for AixiZ mod. Their new 405 coated lens is a broad band coating that is decent for both red and blu-ray. But not as good as the 405-G-1 glass lens for blu-ray, and not as good as their original 'optimized for red' lens that I am using for my Meredith/AixiZ mod for red.

Well Jacob, you did say that the lens modification was the 'same as jayrob's' in your first post, and this was after I know I told you how to fit it and everything...

I suppose the Micro chrome is not the same either?

Its not about trust and i know you have great skills..

I dont think you should be offended by him selling his one lens unless he is mass producing with your exact specs AND underselling you. .

From what i've read on Larry's posts is that its a 405 coated aspherical lens that gives 28% more on BR , because we are talking BR here.

As far as mounting the lens , i didnt see that being any part of the discussion within this thread. it was more like, don't sell what im selling . <-- Period

thats where im coming from on this..

What I have said is that I do not think it is cool to be selling the same modification that I have shown...

I have stated that there is no way that I can stop it, that I do not have a patent on it. But that it is just not good common courtesy.

If you ever showed a method of mounting something, or maybe a custom build with details that you were selling, and another person copied your design, and basically made it known that they can and will make your design available, then you would understand. But you do not understand this reasoning, so you obviously have not experienced this type of thing.

Well, after more than one month I'll try to write a positive (I hope) conclusion on this topic. I bought this mini BR from Jake, and I asked him to reduce the power to 200mW to give to the diode a longer life. It arrived to me with a standard Aixiz lens (that is, with the small hole in the rear side of the lens nut); so Jay, I can assure you that Jake didn't sell anything similar to your modification.

But I'm already a happy owner of one of the first 405-G-1 assy manufactured by Jay! Someone will ask why I have been so late to write this conclusion; the point is that I had to wait for more than four weeks to get the damned 10440 UltraFire protected batteries ordered to DX the 10/04!!!!

It was a crazy situation: having in my hands a 200mW mini BR, just fitted with mine 405-G-1 Jay lens, but missing of those batteries!

In short, two days ago I received (finally) the two batteries pack, I immediately charged them, prepared my LPM LaserBee I and then....switch on: WOW, 266 mW!!!

What to say? Jake, your mini BR is gorgeous! Jay, your 405-G-1 is astonishing!!!
