THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST. THIS LASER IS NOW SOLD

While I was building the matched sets, I decided to do a little "tinkering" with another host I had picked up. It had some interesting features that I wanted to check out. This offering is the result of that "tinkering.

Offered for sale a 165mW Burning Blu-Ray. This laser has the 803T diode being driven at 185mA. It uses a flexdrive powered by three AAA Alkaline batteries. One of the things that caught my eye with this host was the switch. It is a "clicky" (constant on) switch, but it is on the side of the housing like regular flashlight. The host is a Dorcy "1 Watt" LED. It is so bright that I saved one of these to put in my night stand :-[ It comes with its own storage/carrying case.

It is being offered for $250, shipped in the US

Here it is in its case

Since the clicky is on the side, the laser will stand up on its own.

Here's the shaky beam shot

This feels very good in my hand. Also as I said I am very impressed with the host itself. Because I think it is such a good flashlight, I don't want them just sitting around here. If you buy this laser, I will include one of the stock flashlights with it. If you want to turn it into a laser, it's yours to do with what you will. I will help. However, do you really have a good, very bright, flashlight in your room? I do, now.

If you haven't seen what a 405nm beam looks like over 140mW, just ask around. There aren't that may of us, but we WILL tell you how much better the beam is. People rave about how cool their little 100mW beam is. I can't even see a 100mW beam ;) It's time to move up. You can do it with this laser or with any of my "matched sets" offered in another thread.

Peace,
dave

165mW? Damn, that would look stunning.

Is it stable at 185mA? Like, would it have a shorter life than if it were running at say 125mA?

We don't have any "long term" tests yet. We are just starting to push these diodes at these powers. They are stable at this input. However, we are definitely bumping up against the edge here. The weaker diodes don't seem to hold up. Fortunately, the weaker diodes usually die in the first week of testing. As I stated, I have two others that have been running at these inputs for over two weeks (multiple burns a day) and I have sold several at inputs similar to this (177mA). They are all living happily with their new owners - no repairs, no returns.

And, Yes. It is stunning. I have one putting out 180mW (Merideth glass lens) that I take outside at night just to look the beam (and the dot on the trees at the end of the bock) ;)

Peace,
dave

Re: FS:  165 mW Burning Blu-Ray

I am very interested in adding one of these to my collection.  I just sent you a PM.  I hope you still have one available and ready to ship.  Also - can it take 3 Energizer Lithium E2s ?

I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for the 180mW version or anything higher (that will not burn out after a few days). . . .

The flexdrive will take up to 5.5V so E2'as should be fine.

Must be nice being a teacher, JUNE JULY AUGUST. Lasers

It's even better being a professor: 20 hours a week, talking for a living, holidays and winter off, no children to babysit, 1/3 of the semester is just sitting down listening to the students give speeches. . . . . .

Stay in school. Get an advanced degree. Retire while you're still earning a living ;)

I can't wait to be emeritus.
