Although I do agree this is wrong, you did give the parts to him. Regardless of the reason they were given to him, they are his now.

This may be somewhat true, but the pricipal behind it is the issue. I dont think anyone will be in a hurry to help him out from now on (lol, as if they were already running :-X). At the very least he could of ran the idea of selling it past Dave since he was the one who helped him out. Yes its his, but his ethics are that of a Jackass.

There have been times where I have felt bad for Wes because of how much he gets attacked in the forum, but I have to say this is NOT one of them..

Wes, the least you could have done is contacted Dave to see what to do. He helped you out in a time of "need", thinking that the parts he was "giving" you would help you out would be used for that "need". When you found out you didn't have a "need" for them, you became ethically responsible to at least let Dave know what happened....

IF you had done that, I am willing to bet Dave would have worked something out with you, seeing as how he sympathized with you in the first place. BUT, instead you obviously did not talk it over with him, and now you are trying to sell the "gift" that was given to you to help you out in your time of "need".

I'd be very pissed also if you did that to me. That would be like me putting gas in a friend's car so they could get to the hospital, and instead I find out they went out of town to the movies instead

Do the right thing, and especially don't trash Dave about this. Again, he only tried to help you in the first place.

I have only been here for a short while now, but Dave is perhaps the coolest, friendliest, most helpful guy on here.

I witnessed you're whole "I haz gurl, i can haz laser 4 secks?" thread, where Dave graciously offered you the parts (and important sex advice...) so that you could end up with the fairytale ending with this girl. By that i mean a relationship of course.

And now you go and spend a whole 2 bucks at radioshack for a project box (apparently "high tech") and a button, stick it together (suffering horrible burn wounds) and go to make profit from the generous gift of this fine man?

Wes, I dont know what is worse about this entire situation. The fact that you even tried to sell this to begin with, or the fact that you still dont realize why it's WRONG.

Your analogy of a video game and a friend are no where near similar. This would be more like if a charity organization accepted donated cars to give to people who are in need, but instead of giving the car to the needy person, they just sold it to make a buck.

Do you really not realize why this is wrong and why that diode/housing/driver ISN'T yours? Sure, go head and keep the box, the switch and whatever else you bought but the materials that dave provided to you AS A FAVOR should be returned to him. If you want to build a DIY, do it the right way, dont prey on the generosity of the members around here just so you can make a quick buck. This is no different than scamming someone out of their money.

What if you gave the laser to that girl and found her on here selling it? You'd be pretty pissed right? In fact, you would probably say "Hey, it was meant for you as a gift, if you're just going to sell it I want it back." It's the same thing buddy.

I guess what it comes down to is this:

Do you want to be banned permanently and make your money off this one laser? Or do you want to suck up your pride, give it back, and continue to make use of this forum so you can sell legitimate lasers in the future?

I don't want to speak for others, but I really don't think c0ld would have any problem banning someone over a situation such as this. Especially when that person has a track record like yours.


I just want to buy the damn thing so I can mail it back to Dave...
