Hello everyone,

Thinking of building some lab lasers to put up for sale on my store ( I'll unveil it soon once I've done more testing :p ).

Anyway, I was thinking of making the following:

808nm:
1,0W, 0,5W, 0,3W
(Input voltage 6VDC)

660nm:
0,25W (Input voltage 6VDC)

405nm:
0,12W
(Input voltage 8VDC)

What would you pay for such modules? They would all be using brand new LDs, not extracted - full length pins, never used. I need to see if this is viable before I start anything.

Let me know what you think! :)

Cheers,

Adam

Sounds like a sweet idea Diachi! Before I could hazard a guess at a reasonable price for these modules, I'd like to know more about features. Are we talking about basic diode modules (just diode, heatsink and driver)? Will they include modulation? Are they going to use AR coated glass lenses or just acrylic? Any plans for TEC cooling?

I can add certain things to suit the buyer. I plan on designing some drivers with modulation, and I'll work on some temperature controllers for TECs too. The optics will be AR coated, and you can select which optics you would like, of course if they cost more it will add to the entire cost of the module.

Basically you can customize as you see fit. The basic model will just be a constant current driver, LD and heatsink/module. This is the model that will be available on my store. But say you wanted a Meredith module or a Lens 27 from roithner, you could request those parts and I would install them instead.

EDIT: I'd like to add that I will also have the modulated version for sale on my store. I can try and meet any other requirements on request.

While an open-ended design might seem like a good idea, it actually confuses people a lot of the time. If it was my idea, I'd provide a few levels of predetermined packages to give people an idea of what a system with their desired feature set will cost, and then offer further customizations at additional charge.

Okay, that makes sense. I think i'll start out with one package and then expand gradually to a wider range as demand for a wider range grows. :)

Will you makea 473nm version?

No, 473nm DPSS is too difficult to do as a DIY job. I will however be looking for suppliers of 473nm modules and I believe I have already found one. In which case, I WILL be selling 473nm modules, and other DPSS modules.

Hey Diachi, how about maybe 640nm and 445nm modules for those willing to spend a little more? So far the only people selling 640 is drlava and laser-wave, and I don't think anyone is selling 445nm, though the diodes may be a bit hard to obtain sometimes ...

I was thinking about this today - the issue with that is that I need money to buy the parts first, which I don't have. So it'll be a few months at least before I do have the money. I know where to get the parts though, so that's not really an issue.

over 700 Euros a piece for a new 150mW Nichia 445. Going to look around and see if I can find anything better. :yh:

I'd be interested, but only for higher powered labbies. Like the 1W IR. If the price is right, you might be seeing me again later down the road.
