Re: Feeler: Neon string

it's just EL wire (electroluminescent)

same technology that makes your watch screen glow green/blue just in wire form instead of a flat sheet

I may be interested in some

Re: Feeler: Neon string

what exactly is it useful for? how strong is it? I always thought watches glow due to a diffused LED :\

I don't understand. How do these work?
its wire coated in phosphorecent substance(not sure what) with another wire inside the casing plastic and when you run a high current thru it it causes it to glow.

I believe that should be high voltage.

No no, if you stick a high current through it it will glow.

Just a sort of orange, burning colour... not phosphorescence [smiley=evil.gif]

Re: Feeler: Neon string

EL wire is AWESOME ! I "pimped out my brother's PC for him when I built it - it is VERY bright, too :) JUST the type of annoying thing I like to find to bug him with.

I already have the inverters (I think) but before this GB is over, I will definitely chime in with my preferences :) Nice find, Toked !

Re: Feeler: Neon string

I'd like 2 x 10 ft of the dark blue and 2 inverters. could be useful lighting for my room :)

I'd hook it up to a switch to have it all turn on / off with 1 switch

Re: Feeler: Neon string

Well I found a cheaper source for inverters at 6$ a piece.  I think i can get cheaper wire to not sure but about 1.15$ a foot, the cool thing is with this stuff you can make it the size you want like say you want 1ft but you have a 5ft piece just measure out a foot and cut it.

There are thicker ones, but the thicker they are the more they cost.

So it looks like there is interest sweet.

EDIT: Unless I figure out how to use Google pages and make checkout there will be Paypal.
I will have to charge the extra percentage fees they charge(google/paypal) as I am making no profit on it except for some shipping.

Re: Feeler: Neon string

Oh one more thing, you can use standard neon light/flourescent light transformers on these.

Edit: First post modified some prices

Also once we hit 120ft I'm gonna close this GB so far there is 40ft total

How much power do these things sap?
from one supplier's datasheet, for a common type:

Current Consumption (mAmp) of 1 meter length

Voltage
VRMS 200 Hz 400 Hz  800 Hz 2000 Hz 4000 Hz
10 0.03     0.05     0.10     0.24    0.45
80 0.25     0.50     1.00     2.40    4.70
120     0.40     0.80     1.55     3.80    7.45
160     0.57     1.15     2.20     5.35   10.55
200     0.74     1.50     2.90     7.00   13.80
240     1.07     1.89     3.55     8.75   16.90

it says here that 200V @ 4Khz will do 1,000 meters!
