I'm thinking about buying a bunch of fasttech "5mW" modules, which average about 50mW, and some hosts to stick them in. Would like to know if anyone would be interested in buying them from me. The price would likely be around $25 each or more depending on how much the hosts are. I'm going to buy some modules and some different hosts next week just to get some examples of the final product out there and see which hosts people like best, and post pictures of them in this thread. Thanks for reading :)

Here's some pictures of the different hosts I might try:

Generic NewWish host

Jayrob chrome pen hosts :)

MXDL Pens (1*10440) - Cheap and great looking!

Powerlight B50 (Will be more expensive due to the price of the host kits)

Waterproof Host

I have only been around here a little bit but I have begun to notice things that keep repeating... lol

Also I know I couldn't get the 50mw fasttech modules in jayrobs chrome to fit correctly, if you lined the button up the module was stickout out the front.

THe one's from lily's electronics work good

Yep, I covered that in the OP. I'm planning on making 1 with each of the 4 hosts before I start selling, I'd just like to know if anyone's interested :)

I know, I saw the pictures in the thread. I personally think it looks alright with it sticking out the front; maybe I could get a threaded cover to fit over it with the same finish as the host.

I highly doubt the fasttech module will fit into the B50 host.....

Also, as these 5mW modules vary widely, you will need access to an LPM to have any hope of selling these. With the widespread availability of overspec ebay pens similar to the newwish in the first picture going for 6-7 dollars, I find it unlikely you will sell many of that type.

Well, the heatsink looks like it's fairly long, so I'm going to give it a shot. If it doesn't fit at least I'll have a nice little host for another build :)

I'm working on getting a sensor that works with the Argmeter. If I'm able to find one I'll be ordering it the same time I order the parts for these builds. Otherwise, I'll probably get a Laserbee.

if you dont have an ARGMeter right now then you'll be waiting a few months to get them. ARG is working on a new project and the meters are on hold for a while. cant disclose the project though but he told me that the meters are roughly two months out if not more. im also in the market for one of his meters so im bummed but first in line :p

Just a quick update: I should be getting an Ophir meter within the next 3 weeks or so, so I'll have these all LPM'd before I start selling them!

How did you get your hands on the Ophir and did you end up getting those three E2s?

I'm still waiting for my paycheck to buy the E2's, and one of the members here is selling me a practically unused Ophir head for $290.

Oh yeah, only got three more days :)

OUCH DUDE, thats a hard hit but with the shortage i expected prices to climb. Only reason i bought my sensor when i did was due to the shortage coming. its been sitting in the package ever since i got it but soon that will change.

BTW keeping my eye on these builds to see how they turn out, GL

I think it's a pretty decent price. It would probably be much more if I bought it retail or directly from Ophir. I'm going to spread it out over 2 paychecks though so I can still buy some stuff in between :p

If these turn out well I'll probably try to sell them locally as well, since they'll be pretty inexpensive and I know quite a few people that are somewhat interested in lasers but not willing to spend hundreds on them.

Also, I'm planning on making some cheaper burning lasers with the waterproof host since I know quite a few people would be interested in that.
