If you use base ISO(100-200ISO) you will get better resolution. Also, on the 50 f/1.8 lens you have, be sure to stop down as your Depth of Field will be very shallow, and unless you shoot perpendicular to the beam you will have out of focus parts in your picture. Also, as long as you are enjoying long exposures, there is no need to put higher ISOs as your camera will be able to get the exposure it needs over the course of 30 seconds or so.
