You're welcome. Have fun with it. Yes. I set these pen-style ones a little lower in case heat became an issue. I don't think it is going to, but it's better to be a bit on the safe side. 185mW of focused violet light will burn very well ;)

Re: daguin's Penultimate Sale

I just recieved my 190mW 6x laser yesterday. I's only a little brighter than my 110mW PHR, but it burns things much faster than the PHR. It burns holes in white paper from across the room when focused. I'm really impressed with the build quality and the small size of the laser. Shipping time was also super fast (3 days from order to arrival). Awesome laser dave, thanks! :)

Yeah.   They don't really "look" much different.  Lots of variables affect how bright they "look."  They just have twice the power  [smiley=evil.gif]

Have fun.

I mailed your spacer on Saturday.

Remember, it will get up to 28-30mW with the AAA batteries. It just needs to warm up to it.

Peace,
dave

My flexdrives are on the way, so a limited number more may be available in the next week.  Now we're just waiting on drivers for the red burner modules.
Yay!  A KRyton SOLD!!!  wHOOOHOO.

They will ALL sell.  This is just quite a bit of money for many people.  After they figure out that these 6X's are still very hard to come by (and the Kryton Smooths are almost impossible to find), they will sell.

People see all of the threads about "group buys" and "stores" having the 6X sled in their inventory and think that more will be here "tomorrow."  However, have you noticed the distinct lack of successful GB's and the number of 6X sleds actually in stock in the "stores"?  They think that the 6X's will go the way of the PHR and that in a few months we will be getting these for $12.  Most people don't realize that the PHR's are from a defunct technology (HD DVD).  The sleds are "extras" because no one has a use for them any more.   The sleds are all "damaged" because they were stripped from HD DVD units that were headed for the scrap heap.  The 6X sleds we got were ALL QC rejects, NOT "extra" first-run sleds.

I would LOVE for the 6X to get less expensive.  However, I do not believe that is going to happen.  When the next diode comes online, these will be used until they are gone.  Drive makers don't order 50,000 units if they are only planning on building 35,000 units.  Diode manufacturers don't initiate production runs without orders from manufacturers.   Drive sellers don't recall a viable drive just because a better one came out.  They just discount the existing drives until they are gone.  Their manufacture has probably already been stopped.  Industries know how to use up stock at the end of a technology.  HD DVD's demise ran a different course, complete with promised support for a year.  That won't happen with the 6X.

Peace,
dave

@ c0ld -- Having the word "serplus" (misspelled intentionally) turned into "spammer" is a bit much.  I had to substitute the word "extra" just to make the post readable;)
Very informative and interesting post sir! But blu-ray is taking over DVD as the leading format, and sooner or later it will be commonplace. Don't you think that eventually blu-ray will be as affordable as DVD is now? Or perhaps you were only talking about the 6X diodes specifically? I want to point out that I'm not at all arguing, I'm just asking.

This post was dealing specifically with the potential availability and price of the 6X diodes vs. what people are "wanting" to happen based on their very limited exposure to the process experienced with the PHR diode.

Blu-ray disc recording will be around awhile yet. The writing speeds will continue to increase along with the output power of the diodes used. Unfortunately, there will never be several thousand "extra" 6X sleds "salvaged" from drives destined for the scrapper and dumped on the market for a song.

Peace,
dave

All the Grooves are gone. Only the two Smooths left. I'm glad I've got mine in a case in my drawer. These are going to end up more rare than hen's teeth.
